Pran Buri Dam
Situated in Tambon Khao Chao within Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Pran Buri Dam is a peaceful outdoor destination offering sweeping reservoir views and a genuine taste of Thailand's rural countryside. The journey to the dam is part of the appeal, with the route passing banana trees, papaya trees, and aloe vera fields. Once there, visitors find a quiet, unhurried atmosphere well suited to walking, cycling, and photography, particularly around sunset when the scenery is at its most striking. The area has a relaxed, natural character with no shops or formal facilities on site, though a mobile cafe occasionally operates near the dam serving food at reasonable prices. The roads leading to the dam can be rough, so a reliable vehicle is recommended over a standard low-clearance car. There is no internet connectivity in the area, which adds to the off-the-grid feel for those who welcome it. Good to know: Visitors should come prepared with sufficient water, food, and sun protection, as shade and supplies are limited. The cooler months between November and February offer the most comfortable conditions for outdoor activities. Water levels at the dam can vary seasonally, so conditions may differ depending on when you visit. Public transport options to the site are limited, so arranging private transport or a rental vehicle in advance is advisable.

Great views and only 25 minute ride from Hua Hin. We passed banana trees, aloe vera fields and papaya trees on our ride to the dam.

A really beautiful view from the dam. There's a mobile cafe here with burgers... very good and reasonably priced!

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
