Wat Sala Thong

This is a temple for the people who live around it, not a stop on anyone's tour circuit. That's the appeal. No ticket desk, no line for photos, just the ordinary rhythm of a Korat neighborhood shrine going about its day. If you've done the big temple runs in Bangkok or Chiang Mai and found them exhausting, this is the antidote.

Come early, before the heat builds. Mornings are when temples in Thailand feel like themselves, with merit-making and monks moving about, and you'll have the grounds mostly to yourself. Sit for twenty minutes. That's honestly the whole visit, and I'd argue it's enough. Anyone hunting spectacular architecture or a big golden landmark should point themselves elsewhere in the province, because that isn't what's on offer here.

It sits on Soi Bencharong in Tambon Nai Mueang, close enough to the center of Nakhon Ratchasima to fold into a morning walk before you head off to the Thao Suranaree monument or the markets.
