The Life Aquatic
Based in the Bophut area of Koh Samui, The Life Aquatic is a dive centre offering a range of scuba experiences for all levels, from beginner Open Water certification courses through to fun dives for already-certified divers. The operation runs day trips to some of the region's most celebrated dive sites, including Sail Rock and the waters around Koh Tao, with a professional team of instructors and a well-equipped boat crew handling gear preparation and on-water safety. Visitors consistently highlight the quality and attentiveness of the instructors, with named staff members receiving repeated praise for their teaching approach and ability to put nervous first-timers at ease. The overall experience is described as smooth and well-organised, from initial booking through to the dive itself, with equipment prepared and ready on arrival. The centre caters to both solo travellers and groups, making it a practical choice for friends with different experience levels looking to dive together. Good to know: The Life Aquatic is open daily from 8:00 AM, with extended hours until 10:00 PM on Saturdays. Advance booking is strongly recommended, particularly for certification courses, which span multiple days. International travellers have noted that booking from abroad ahead of their trip is straightforward, so it is worth reserving a place before arriving on the island, especially during peak season. Visitor Reviews
Me and my friends had an amazing experience diving with Life Aquatic! I booked two days of fun dive for myself and Open Water course for my friends who wanted to certify. Our instructor Tan was incredibly kind, calm and funny while being extremely experienced! He made my friends feeing relaxed and safe during all training in the sea, not to mention made us all laugh a lot ☺️ Diving through small caves was definitely a bonus we did not expect! The organisation by Jo was spotless start to finish, we really appreciated pick up and drop off service (even though we stayed on the other side of the island). Well deserved 5 stars ⭐️ highly recommend!
I first dived with Jo and his team back in 2023 and then we had the pleasure of diving with them multiple times again on our recent trip to Koh Samui. I can’t recommend this company enough - everyone is friendly, professional and a lot of fun! We enjoyed some great dives at different locations and always felt safe, well briefed and well fed. Pick up and drop off to our hotel was included as well as all the equipment and a delicious lunch and drinks, so it’s all sorted for you in one price which is amazing. If you’re planning a trip to Koh Samui soon and aren’t sure who to dive with, then The Life Aquatic would get my vote every time!
Fabulous 2 days diving with The Life Aquatic Team. Koh Tao yesterday and Sail Rock day before. Everything was faultless from booking the trips some months ago from the UK, to the professional, stress free experience delivered on the day by Jo and his incredible staff. They made myself, my wife and 10 year old son who recently gained SSI JOW in the UK feel well informed and confident in the water. Boat was clean and comfortable. Food and refreshments were very nice. All in all obviously one of best operators in Koh Samui and I wouldn't look anywhere else if hopefully one day we return.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
