Rasta Bar
Tucked down a quiet alley in the Bo Put area of Koh Samui, Rasta Bar delivers exactly what its name promises: reggae music, relaxed vibes, and an unpretentious atmosphere where both locals and travellers feel equally at home. It functions as a live music venue as well as a bar, with regular performances spanning classic reggae, UB40, Bob Marley covers, and upbeat Thai folk-pop with reggae influences. The friendly owner and staff set a genuinely welcoming tone that keeps visitors coming back throughout their stay. The bar is small and cosy, which contributes to its social, communal feel rather than detracting from it. A free pool table and board games give guests something to do beyond drinking, and the cocktails and beers are consistently praised for both quality and price. A free BBQ runs twice a week, and the resident dog, Kiwi, apparently handles greeting duties with some enthusiasm. Drinks are budget-friendly, making it easy to settle in for the evening without watching the bill. Good to know: Opening hours are not listed online, so it is worth asking locally or checking on arrival in Bo Put. Reviewers note that food photos still circulating online are outdated, as the bar relocated to a smaller space and no longer serves food. The alley setting keeps things quieter than the main strip, which suits those after a laid-back night rather than a high-energy scene. Casual beachwear is entirely appropriate.

Visitor Reviews
An awesome owner in a really nice bar. Small, cosy but great. No food (its old pictures with the food, cause he moved the bar and its smaller now) but the drinks are great and at a really great price. And only official a-grade liquor. I can recommend!

Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
