Common Grounds Pai
Compare prices
Common Grounds Pai is a well-regarded hostel situated directly on Pai's walking street in Wiang Tai, offering both dormitory beds and private rooms — including at least one two-storey apartment-style option that provides a notably spacious stay. The property has built a strong reputation over many years for striking a balance between social energy and a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere that suits the pace of Pai itself. The common area is a genuine highlight, combining hammocks, floor tables, sofas, and dining areas across an indoor-outdoor space that gives guests plenty of ways to unwind or connect with fellow travellers. A bar and cafe operate on-site, and staff organise regular activities for guests who want to get involved in the local scene. Reviewers consistently praise the cleanliness of rooms and bathrooms, the quality of showers, and the warmth of the staff, who are described as deeply engaged with the broader Pai social scene and well-placed to offer local guidance. Common Grounds is open daily from 9:00am to 9:00pm. Given its social atmosphere and location on the walking street, it suits independent travellers, backpackers, and anyone who wants to connect with other visitors rather than simply pass through. Booking in advance is advisable, particularly during the cooler high season months from November to February when Pai draws its largest crowds.

Visitor Reviews
this is literally my favorite hostel i have stayed at it in my 2.5 months of traveling through southeast asia. violet and tai are absolutely gems of human beings and do such a stellar job of fostering an environment that is open and friendly and inviting for everyone. i only planned to stay here for two nights but ended up extending for like a week. the facilities are good and clean and the shared dorms are pretty spacious compared to the average hostel. the common area is super cozy and the drinks at the bar are well priced as well. a perfect social hostel if what you’re looking for is a place to meet friends in a place that is a bit more laid back than the party hostels. and the daily events are great and give you lots of opportunities to see the surrounding scenic spots of pai
Returned after 10 years and it's just as good if not better. We had a private room which ended up being a 2-story apartment, slept very well. Loads of activities every day or night if you want to join in but also easy to meet people in the bar. Pool table. Really central behind food market but quiet at night. Great decor. Sweet little dog called Bo-Bo. Extended an extra 3 nights. Mostly importantly wonderful staff, particularly Violet, Jeen both the other receptionists, both bar staff and the cleaning staff - in fact everyone working there made you feel safe, looked after and was a good laugh. We ended up in a bar with them all on our last night which rounded off an amazing trip nicely. Will be back again, hopefully not another 10 years this time! Abi & Andrew x
This hostel is fantastic! It’s incredibly social, with a great indoor-outdoor common area that exudes a cozy vibe. There are hammocks, floor tables, dining tables, and sofas to relax on. The bar/cafe also serves decent drinks. I was able to rent a scooter here without any trouble. I stayed in a four-person mixed ensuite dorm, which was super spacious and had a central sofa. This made it easy to organize my belongings. During my stay, the hostel hosted a BBQ night, which was lovely. I also met some great people here.
