Khao Ra is the highest point on Koh Phangan, at 627 m, in the forested middle of the island, and the hike to the top is the island's toughest walk. The trail climbs through jungle, and parts of it are steep enough that you'll pull yourself up on roots and branches. Accounts put it at two to three hours.
I'd only go on a clear day, because the reward is the view over the island and the coast, and on a hazy morning you won't see much. Start early to beat the heat, and if you've never hiked in the tropics, go with a local guide.
