Doi Wiang Pha National Park
Nestled in the mountainous terrain of Chai Prakan District on the border between Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai provinces, Doi Wiang Pha National Park draws visitors with its cool highland climate, forested trails, and unhurried atmosphere. The park is notably less crowded than Thailand's more prominent natural attractions, making it a genuine retreat for those seeking quiet rather than spectacle. A waterfall within the park is one of the main draws, though water levels vary seasonally and can be low outside the rainy season. Accommodation is available on-site, with large, clean bungalows that receive consistent praise from visitors. The staff are frequently highlighted in reviews for their friendliness and helpfulness. The surrounding scenery and cool, comfortable air are the park's defining qualities, and while there are limited activities beyond walking and relaxing, that simplicity is very much the point for most visitors. Good to know: The access road into the park is an unpaved dirt track of roughly 3–4 kilometres. While small cars can manage it, the road is uneven, and a vehicle with higher clearance will make for a more comfortable arrival. Google Maps navigation has reportedly led some visitors astray on the approach, so asking staff or locals for directions is advisable. The coolest and most pleasant conditions occur between November and February. If visiting specifically for the waterfall, the rainy season months offer the best flow. There is no website listed for the park, so checking current entry requirements and bungalow availability by contacting the park directly or through local tour operators is recommended before making the trip.

Visitor Reviews
January 4th, 2026. I planned to visit this national park to collect my points and also go for a walk at the waterfall. The staff said the waterfall had low water levels, just enough to see. As for the road into the park, sedans can access it, but it's a dusty, unpaved road about 4 kilometers long, like a drive through a farm or orchard. Drive slowly because there's a lot of dust; be considerate of the locals. The staff here are very kind and cheerful. I got four beautiful autographs from them, which I'm very happy about! They also sell drinks and snacks.
I got lost on the way in because Google Maps took me the wrong way, but I got there anyway. The staff provided excellent service, smiling brightly and giving good advice. However, I stopped to visit the waterfall and the park stamp. The place is clean and you can set up a tent by the water. However, you have to walk up to Doi Wiang Pha, which is quite far.
The access road is a 3-4 km dirt road, but small cars can easily get there. The atmosphere is great, the weather is cool and comfortable. The service is excellent. The large bungalows are clean, and the campsite is very good. There aren't many people, it's quiet and peaceful. A la carte food is available. Suitable for people who like peace and quiet.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
