Ekkamai BTS Station

4.2(298 reviews)

Ekkamai BTS Station sits on the BTS Sukhumvit line in the Phra Khanong area of Bangkok's Khlong Toei district, serving as a practical interchange point for travellers moving between the city's rail network and longer-distance bus routes. Its most significant feature is its proximity to the Ekkamai Bus Terminal, located just steps from the station exit, making it a key departure point for destinations southeast of Bangkok including Pattaya, Rayong, and Chonburi. The station itself is clean and well-maintained, consistent with Bangkok's broader BTS network, which runs air-conditioned trains on a reliable schedule. Signage is clear and navigation is straightforward for first-time visitors. A small selection of cafes and convenience options are available within or near the station for those waiting between connections. The adjacent Gateway Ekkamai shopping mall adds further convenience for travellers with time to spare. Travellers planning to use the Ekkamai Bus Terminal should note that multiple bus operators run services from this location, each with their own ticketing and schedules. Checking departure times and buying tickets in advance is advisable during weekends and public holidays when demand is higher. The BTS operates from approximately 06:00 to midnight daily, so early morning bus departures may require alternative transport to reach the station.

Visitor Reviews

The BTS in Bangkok is absolutely fantastic! 🛤️ The trains are clean, punctual, and air-conditioned — perfect for escaping the heat. The stations are well-marked, and it’s really easy to find your way around, even if it’s your first time in Bangkok. I especially loved that some of the trains are still decorated with Halloween decorations — it creates such a fun atmosphere and shows great attention to detail! 🎃👻 Overall, it’s a super convenient, affordable, and comfortable way to get around the city. Highly recommended! 🚆💛

Tips for Visiting Transportation

Take the Sleeper Train at Least Once

The Bangkok-to-Chiang Mai overnight train in a second-class sleeper berth is a bucket-list experience. Book at least a week ahead via 12Go.asia or at Hua Lamphong station. Upper berths are cheaper and have more headroom; lower berths have a window.

Use Grab Everywhere

Grab is the Uber of Southeast Asia and works across Thailand for cars, motorbike taxis, and even tuk-tuks in some cities. It eliminates haggling and provides fare estimates upfront. Load a Thai SIM or use eSIM to stay connected.

Rent Scooters Carefully

Always photograph the scooter's existing damage before riding off, and keep your passport — give a photocopy instead (some shops insist on the original; avoid these). Wear a helmet; police fine 500 THB for no helmet and accidents without one void insurance.
