Thappraya Night Market
Tucked into the Pattaya area just around 400 metres from Walking Street, this neighbourhood market caters primarily to locals but welcomes visitors looking for an authentic, no-frills experience away from the more tourist-heavy strips. The variety on offer is broad, ranging from Thai street food and sushi to kebabs and European dishes, alongside practical services such as massage, a hair dresser, and even a visa office. A 24-hour bar and pool table add a lively, casual edge to the place. Food is where this market stands out most. Prices are firmly local, with rice dishes reported at around 50 baht and skewers starting from as little as 10 baht. Visitors have highlighted the pad thai and fried rice with chicken as particular favourites. The atmosphere is informal and bustling, with the majority of stalls leaning toward Thai cuisine. It is worth going in with realistic expectations. The market is not polished or tourist-oriented, and cleanliness is noted as inconsistent across the site, though facilities are considered adequate. A handful of visitors have reported unpleasant encounters with certain staff, so it pays to be aware that experiences can vary. That said, for travellers seeking genuinely cheap local food in a lively, everyday setting close to central Pattaya, it serves that purpose well.

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
