Phahurat Market
Tucked into the Phra Nakhon district of Bangkok, Phahurat Market is the city's long-established Indian quarter, offering a compelling cultural contrast to the more heavily touristed markets nearby. The area is defined by its colourful storefronts selling South Asian textiles and fabrics alongside a lively mix of Indian, Muslim, and Myanmar-run shops. The atmosphere is notably relaxed and less crowded than many of Bangkok's other markets, making it an appealing destination for those who want to explore at their own pace. Food is a genuine highlight here. Visitors consistently point to the street food stalls clustered behind the Sikh temple as a standout, offering both vegetarian and Muslim Indian options at very affordable prices. A budget-friendly food court inside the market also caters to locals and students, giving the whole area an authentic, everyday character rather than a tourist-facing one. Several affordable riverside eating spots add to the appeal for those who want a relaxed meal in a shaded setting. Phahurat Market is open every day from 06:30 to 18:30, making mornings a practical time to visit before the heat of the day builds. Comfortable, modest clothing is advisable given the proximity to the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Sikh temple, which sits at the heart of the neighbourhood. The market's Facebook page serves as its primary online presence for updates on traders and events.

Visitor Reviews
I came across this market and stopped by to have something to eat. There are many different food stalls, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Although there are shops, I didn't buy anything. I recommend it for the experience.
Chilling market, less crowded and touristy. So many affordable places to eat by the river, much cheaper than other markets and has more shaded walking areas.
Beautiful fabrics and an interesting market filled with Indian delicacies, all with a truly unique atmosphere. A fascinating place to explore 🇮🇳🙏🏻

Tips for Visiting Markets & Shopping
Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
