Ong Ang Walking Street
Stretching along the Ong Ang Canal in the historic Phra Nakhon district, this weekend walking street comes alive each Friday through Sunday evening with food vendors, small traders, street art, and a relaxed atmosphere that contrasts with Bangkok's larger, more overwhelming markets. The canal setting adds a scenic quality that sets it apart from typical night markets, and visitors frequently note the colourful murals and artwork lining the walkway as a highlight in their own right. Food is a strong draw here, with street snacks, Thai classics, and notably some well-regarded Indian and Nepalese cuisine that reviewers single out as among the better options in Bangkok. Prices are reported to be noticeably cheaper than central city areas, making it a practical choice for budget-conscious visitors. The market does get crowded on busy evenings, so those who prefer a more comfortable browse are better off arriving closer to opening time at 4 PM. It is worth setting expectations accordingly: this is a neighbourhood canal market rather than a large-scale shopping destination, and some visitors find it modest in scope. Those who appreciate street art, affordable local food, and an evening stroll by the water in the Old City tend to get the most from it. Its location near temples and other Phra Nakhon landmarks makes it a natural add-on to a broader day of sightseeing in the area.

Visitor Reviews
Ong Ang Walking Street is a nice place to visit if you want a relaxed walk by the canal. The area is pleasant and scenic, with a calm atmosphere compared to busier spots in the city. There are a few stalls and places to eat along the way, which makes it enjoyable to explore. It was not as lively as expected, but it is still worth visiting if you want a quieter spot to stroll and take photos. Overall, Ong Ang Walking Street is a charming place for a casual visit and a peaceful walk in Bangkok.
This area has changed quite a bit, the first time I was here it was just canal art and no merchants, stores, or stands.. now it has been revitalized and is a vibrant market area. Make sure to go when the main and night market occurs. Most of my pictures are from before when it was just a local art Canal Zone.
It does get pretty crowded and you’ll definitely be squeezing through at times, but that’s part of the vibe. The best part? Prices are way cheaper compared to the city area. Totally worth it!

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
