SWU Nightmarket
Tucked within the grounds of Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) on Sukhumvit Road, this weekly night market offers one of Bangkok's more genuine local experiences. Unlike the city's larger tourist-facing markets, this is a compact, community-driven affair where university students and neighbourhood regulars make up most of the crowd. The setting around a large open grassy field gives it a casual, social atmosphere that feels distinctly different from Bangkok's more commercial shopping destinations. Food is the main draw, with stalls serving a wide variety of Thai street dishes including noodles, curries, seafood, snacks, and desserts at reasonable prices. A student band often performs, adding to the laid-back mood. Beyond food, vendors sell a mix of handmade goods and casual merchandise, and the unhurried pace makes browsing easy. Notably, the university also hosts a morning market on Tuesdays and Thursdays, giving visitors with flexible schedules additional opportunities to explore the site. Good to know: This market operates on Friday evenings only, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, so planning around that window is essential. Visitors expecting a large or sprawling market should adjust expectations accordingly — the appeal here lies in its intimate, neighbourhood scale rather than sheer size. Arriving earlier in the evening allows for the best stall selection before crowds build. Cash is advisable, as many small vendors are unlikely to accept cards.

Visitor Reviews
At Srinakharinwirot University (SWU), there’s a night market every Friday and a morning market on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I visited the morning market once before and was really impressed. great produce, delicious food, and it stuck with me ever since. Out of all the markets I’ve visited in Bangkok, this one might be my favorite. 👍 The atmosphere is amazing, seriously. Under the early-evening blue sky, with wide open lawns and a campus full of students, the whole place felt bright, lively, and full of youthful energy. Such a refreshing scene. My top pick of the night: the sweet potato fried balls🍠 absolutely delicious. Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, like a really well-made glutinous rice donut. Completely my liking. I’m still thinking about them today. 🤤 This Friday night market at SWU is definitely a place I’d love to come back to again. 🌙✨
Weekly night market on SWU campus. Stalls seem to be run by a mix of students and non-. Like others have said, this one isn't overwhelmingly huge and is adjacent to a large grassy field on which people sit to enjoy live music. You will not find touristy exotic food here - the closest we saw were cooked insects. The prices are very reasonable and all owners we interacted with were friendly. I wish this night market occurred more often.
If you are more into local night market this is the place to go. Most customers are university students and every one sits on the lawn to enjoy the food and music. The vibe is relaxing. The student bands also perform to raise the fund. This is not a typical tourist night market but you will feel the energy of SWU and experience what life Thai locals actually have.

Haggle at Markets, Not Malls
Prices at market stalls are negotiable — start at 50–60% of the asking price and meet in the middle. Fixed-price shops and malls don't haggle. Smile and keep it friendly; aggressive bargaining is considered rude.
Arrive Early or Late
Vendors believe the first sale of the day is lucky — you'll often get a better deal if you arrive right when the market opens. Late in the evening, sellers may also discount to avoid packing unsold goods.
Be Cautious with Tailors
Bangkok has excellent tailors, but also many tourist traps. Avoid anyone offering suspiciously cheap suits or who approaches you on the street. Ask your hotel for recommendations, read reviews, and always get two fittings.
