Nang Yuan Island

Nang Yuan Island sits just off the northwestern tip of Koh Tao and is made up of three small islets connected by natural sandy causeways, creating a landscape that is as photogenic above the waterline as it is below. The surrounding waters are rich in marine life, making it one of the more popular snorkelling and diving spots in the Gulf of Thailand, particularly for those already based on Koh Tao who are looking to explore beyond the main island. Visitors can expect clear, relatively calm waters, coral formations within easy swimming distance of shore, and a lush, forested hillside that provides shade and a striking backdrop. The beach areas along the causeways are well-suited for relaxing between swims, and the elevated viewpoint accessible by a short trail rewards the climb with panoramic views over the islets and surrounding sea. Good to know: Nang Yuan Island is privately managed, and a small entry fee is typically charged upon arrival by boat. Visitors are generally not permitted to bring in plastic bottles, so it is worth decanting water before departure. The island is most easily reached by longtail boat or speedboat from Koh Tao's Mae Haad Pier. Mornings tend to be quieter, so arriving early offers a more relaxed experience before day-trip crowds peak.
