Why go, and how to do it well
Koh Adang is the mountain you look at from Koh Lipe's Pattaya Beach, a jungle-covered island of about 29 square kilometers rising to 690 meters, a short longtail ride across the channel. Lipe is the one with the bars and guesthouses; Adang is protected national park, and the contrast is the reason to cross. The park station at Laem Son on the southern tip has a long beach, bungalows, a camping ground and a canteen, and two Urak Lawoi villages sit on the northeast coast.
The classic half day is the climb to Pha Chado, the Chado Cliff, an old pirate lookout with the view everyone photographs, Lipe and the beaches of Adang laid out below in shades of turquoise. A trail inland leads to the Chon Salat waterfall, which runs all year. Most snorkeling trips from Lipe stop off Adang's coast, but staying a night in a park tent is the way to have the place to yourself.

Check Island Closures
Similan Islands, Surin Islands, and Koh Tachai close mid-May to mid-October. Some smaller islands reduce ferry service in monsoon season. Always verify schedules before planning your route.
Snorkel Gear Is Cheap to Buy
Rental gear is often scratched and ill-fitting. Buy a decent mask and snorkel at a Big C for 300–500 THB — cheaper than two days of rentals and much more hygienic.
Bring Cash to Smaller Islands
ATMs on smaller islands like Koh Kood, Koh Mak, and Koh Yao charge high fees and sometimes run out of cash. Withdraw enough on the mainland before heading over.
