Plakan Resort
Plakan Resort is a boutique riverside hotel in Pak Phraek, Kanchanaburi, offering a distinctive stay that blends modern comfort with genuine character. The lobby and a dedicated room within the property are filled with quirky vintage memorabilia, giving it a personality that sets it apart from standard accommodation in the region. Rooms are spacious and well-maintained, and the on-site restaurant — housed in a wooden chalet-style building — serves traditional Thai food and draws both guests and locals alike. Guests can expect a clean, well-kept property with a swimming pool and riverside setting. Breakfast is included in the room rate, and the location provides quick access to Kanchanaburi's town centre in under five minutes, making it a practical base for visiting the River Kwai, war museums, temples, and nearby natural attractions. The atmosphere is relaxed and quiet, suited to travellers looking for a comfortable and characterful place to rest between explorations. Good to know: Kanchanaburi is most comfortable to visit between November and February during the cooler dry season. The resort is within easy reach of central Kanchanaburi, so hiring a bicycle or taking a short ride into town is straightforward. As with most accommodation in the region, booking ahead is advisable during peak season and public holidays to secure availability.

Visitor Reviews
Plakan resort was a delight! Huge room, big comfortable bed and plenty of amenities. We enjoyed the pool (though it’s a bit cold at this time of year!) The restaurant was good and clearly popular as a stand alone place. We recommend the fried fish with Thai herbs. We had it twice! The breakfast was basic but delicious. The congee was great! The staff were all really lovely. Welcoming and warm. Some had limited English but they tried! The hotel looks out onto the river and it’s a lovely spot. Don’t bother with the fitness room! The hotel is out of central kanchanaburi so if you don’t have a car, it could be a bit of a pain. We didn’t have any problems driving in to see the sights though.
Plakan Resort is a boutique hotel a long riverside in Kanchanaburi, good location easy to access to city central in less than 5mins. Price is reasonable with breakfast included. You can enjoy local food dinner at the Plakan Log Home restaurant face to the river. I recommend this hotel for family trip and staycation.
This is a boutique style hotel on the river. It has a lot of quirky vintage memorabilia in the lobby area and even a whole room of items. The hotel itself is extremely well kept and clean which is a major plus. It has a pool and gym and restaurant. Breakfast was excellent and front desk staff and concierges were excellent. A couple of staff in restaurant probably need more training. As one took our order she kept talking/ shouting across to people she seemingly knew as they came through the door which was strange. Also many dishes were not available. WiFi in the room was also a problem as it kept cutting out when watching a video etc. I switched to 5 g in the end as it was not usable Overall though it is an excellent, extremely well maintained hotel and the owner is often around which is always a good sign.
Tips for Visiting Hotels & Resorts
Book Shoulder Season
May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.
Compare OTAs and Direct Rates
Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.
Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive
Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
