Ao Thian

Ao Thian is a characterful beach on the southern end of Koh Samet, distinguished by its natural rocky outcrops that divide the shoreline into a series of small, sheltered coves. This fragmented layout gives the beach an intimate feel that sets it apart from the longer, more open stretches further north on the island. The combination of boulders, calm water, and modest scale makes it a draw for those looking to step away from busier tourist crowds. The atmosphere here leans decidedly laid-back. Visitors can expect a quieter pace, with waterside restaurants and bars dotted along the shore offering food and drinks with direct views of the Gulf of Thailand. The rocky terrain adds visual interest and provides natural spots for sitting and watching the water, though swimmers should take care around the outcrops depending on conditions. Ao Thian is best suited to travellers who prefer a relaxed, unhurried beach experience over organised facilities or water sports. As with most of Koh Samet, the beach is most comfortably visited during the dry season, which runs roughly from November through April, when seas are calmer and rainfall is minimal. Getting there requires reaching Koh Samet by ferry from Ban Phe pier in Rayong, and Ao Thian sits toward the southern end of the island, so visitors should factor in additional time for onward travel by foot or songthaew once on the island.
