Chomthong Pier - boat trips to Kissing Cave

4.7(374 reviews)

Chomthong Pier is the launching point for boat excursions to Kissing Cave, a striking limestone formation within Sam Roi Yot National Park in Prachuap Khiri Khan province. The cave takes its name from two rock peaks that appear to meet, and the journey to reach it passes through calm waters and lotus fields before arriving at the cave entrance. Visitors report a well-guided experience with knowledgeable and friendly boat operators who help navigate both the route and the photo opportunities the cave presents. Inside the cave, a newer boat has been installed to transport visitors through the interior, making it easier to move around and take photographs without needing to bring the main vessel in. The lighting and rock formations inside create a visually rewarding stop, and the cave is accessible as part of a broader Sam Roi Yot National Park itinerary that includes other natural attractions in the area. Good to know: Boat trips cost approximately 600 THB per person, which visitors consider good value for the experience. Entry to the cave falls under the Sam Roi Yot National Park fee structure, currently around 200 THB, and it is worth keeping the ticket as it covers multiple park stops on the same day. National Park entry opens at 08:00. Afternoon visits around 4:30pm offer particularly good light inside the cave. As opening hours vary seasonally, it is advisable to confirm arrangements through a local tour operator or accommodation in advance.

Very pretty when we went (4:30pm), the guide was friendly and helpful. They built a new boat inside the cave so you don’t need to take the boat inside - which is very convenient for pictures. Not too hot on that day, pretty views.

Tips for Visiting Transportation

Take the Sleeper Train at Least Once

The Bangkok-to-Chiang Mai overnight train in a second-class sleeper berth is a bucket-list experience. Book at least a week ahead via 12Go.asia or at Hua Lamphong station. Upper berths are cheaper and have more headroom; lower berths have a window.

Use Grab Everywhere

Grab is the Uber of Southeast Asia and works across Thailand for cars, motorbike taxis, and even tuk-tuks in some cities. It eliminates haggling and provides fare estimates upfront. Load a Thai SIM or use eSIM to stay connected.

Rent Scooters Carefully

Always photograph the scooter's existing damage before riding off, and keep your passport — give a photocopy instead (some shops insist on the original; avoid these). Wear a helmet; police fine 500 THB for no helmet and accidents without one void insurance.
