Phang Nga Bay

Phang Nga Bay is one of southern Thailand's most dramatic natural landscapes, where towering limestone karsts rise sharply from calm emerald waters. Part of a protected national park, the bay is internationally recognised as the filming location for The Man with the Golden Gun, making James Bond Island one of its most visited landmarks. Beyond the famous rock formations, the bay is dotted with hidden sea caves, mangrove channels, and the remarkable floating village of Koh Panyee, where an entire community lives on stilts above the water.

Tours of the bay typically run as full-day excursions, departing in the early morning and returning by late afternoon. Visitors can expect a combination of long-tail boat or larger vessel travel, stops at key sites including James Bond Island and sea caves, and the chance to kayak through narrow waterways beneath the rock formations. The bay draws significant tourist traffic, though the sheer scale of the scenery means it rarely feels diminished by the crowds.

Most tours depart from Krabi or Phuket, and booking through a reputable operator in advance is advisable during peak season from November to April. Those sensitive to motion on the water should note that conditions can vary, and full-day tours involve several hours on board. Lightweight, quick-dry clothing and sun protection are practical essentials for a day spent largely on open water.
