Poo Street Food

4.8(91 reviews)

Tucked along Chakrabongse Road in the Phra Nakhon district, this small street food stall run by a woman known as Poo has earned a loyal following among locals and travellers alike. The menu leans into classic Thai street food — think basil pork with egg and freshly squeezed orange juice — served quickly, affordably, and with genuine care. Dishes are priced around 50 baht, making it one of the more accessible spots in the area without compromising on flavour or freshness. The atmosphere is intimate, with only a handful of tables and the kind of hospitality that is hard to manufacture. Visitors have found themselves invited to sit and share a meal with the cook and her friends rather than simply being served as customers. Poo is known for taking spice requests seriously, which is not always a given in tourist-heavy parts of Bangkok, and her willingness to accommodate early morning diners adds to the stall's appeal. A few practical points worth noting: the stall operates on cash only, accepting Thai baht or larger USD banknotes, so arriving without local currency may be an inconvenience. The space is small and the setting is simple, which is very much part of the charm. Given the limited seating and the personal nature of the operation, visiting during off-peak hours tends to make for a more relaxed experience.

Incredible street food gem found. We went to the place and there were only the cooker and her friends having dinner. They immediately asked us, not to eat there, but join them. At first, I was hesitant but they instantly made it super comfortable. They recommended some plates and we had pad Thai and Stir fried chicken with rice, both of them increíble. They also gave us to try a broth they just cooked which was spicy but super rich and delicious. It was our first night in Bangkok, we will repeat in the following days 100%. Special mention to Simone and “Number One” which were super friendly and made the experience unforgettable.

Poo was very accommodating despite the early morning hours. Her street food stall had dishes that were delicious and she prepared them very quickly. Would definitely recommend even for an early breakfast before heading out, or for a late dinner as you come back from a long day. By the way, her alley leads to a narrow shortcut to Khao San road. Very convenient.

YAAASSS POO STREET FOOD SO GOOD!!! very sweet woman who owns it. got the basil pork with an egg and it was SPICY!! but she was the first thai person who actually believed me when i said i like spicy food. 80s hits playing on the radio—what more could you ask for?

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food

Learn the Spice Scale

Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.

Follow the Crowds

The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.

Ice Is Safe

Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
