Get Hi Hostel
Get Hi Hostel sits on Satharn Payabarn Road in the Mueang district of Chiang Rai, positioning guests within easy reach of the city's temples, night markets, and transport connections northward into Laos. The hostel is run by owners First and Joe, who are frequently praised by guests for their hands-on approach, personal attention, and genuine effort to ensure every visitor has a memorable stay. The atmosphere here is one of Get Hi's strongest draws. Guests describe a lively yet respectful social environment where travellers connect naturally, head out together, and return to a hostel that still feels calm and welcoming. The owners and staff are known for going beyond standard hospitality, helping guests arrange onward travel such as the slow boat journey into Laos, offering local recommendations, and creating the kind of community feel that keeps the hostel consistently busy with repeat visitors and those drawn over from neighbouring accommodation. Chiang Rai's cool season, running from November through February, offers the most comfortable conditions for exploring the surrounding region, including the White Temple and the Golden Triangle. Travellers planning to use the hostel as a base for crossing into Laos should speak directly with staff, who have practical experience arranging this route. Booking ahead is advisable during peak season, as the hostel's reputation for a strong social atmosphere and attentive ownership means rooms fill quickly.

Visitor Reviews
I had a fantastic time staying here for a short while before embarking on my slow boat journey to Laos. The staff and volunteers were incredibly helpful and attentive, taking the time to provide valuable tips and recommendations to ensure a comfortable stay. They even went the extra mile by learning my name, which added a personal touch to my experience. I highly recommend their tuk-tuk tour, which takes you to the main temples, a beautiful waterfall, and a stunning sunset spot. It was an unforgettable experience that was well worth the cost. Additionally, they offer a twice-daily briefing for those planning to take the slow boat trip to Laos, providing essential information and guidance. The common areas of the hostel have a nice social vibe, and I had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people. They also organize nightly activities, and I particularly enjoyed joining the hostel group for a visit to the night market and a drink at a local bar.
I had a comfortable/exciting stay at Get Hi Hostel. First and Joe (the owners), go above and beyond to make sure that everyone has a good time, make connections, and are well taken care of while here. I’ve never experienced a hostel as communal as this one. They have activities every night which helps with breaking the ice — although there wasn’t really any to break. Breakfast is served every morning and they have an in-house bar that serves tea, local coffee, and alcohol. I highly recommend staying here. You won’t regret it and will probably stay longer than you planned.
Really good hostel, staff are super friendly and the guests there are very social but respectful. People like to go out and have fun together but there still a calm vibe at the hostel. I’d definitely come back here, felt bad I had to rush out without saying goodbye properly as I was late for my bus. I’d also recommend you take on any recommendations for restaurants or activities from the staff, they showed me an excellent beef noodle bar and Thai massage shop. They do good day trips too

Book Shoulder Season
May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.
Compare OTAs and Direct Rates
Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.
Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive
Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
