The Cabin Backpackers Hostel & Bar
Compare prices
Tucked into a quiet soi in Chiang Mai's Si Phum district, this small hostel and bar has built a strong following among backpackers for its warm atmosphere and genuinely helpful staff. The compact size works in its favour — with only a handful of guests at any one time, it's easy to fall into a natural social rhythm, get to know fellow travellers, and join group activities organised through the hostel. Staff members, frequently mentioned by name in guest reviews, go out of their way to assist with everything from tour bookings to local recommendations. The hostel combines comfortable, well-kept dorms with communal spaces that encourage mingling, while the on-site bar adds to the relaxed, social feel. Its location near the old city walls puts Chiang Mai's night markets, temples, and street food within easy walking distance, making it a practical base for exploring the city without relying on transport. Good to know: The hostel operates daily from 8am to 10pm. Given its small size, beds fill quickly — advance booking is strongly recommended, particularly during peak season between November and February when Chiang Mai's cooler, drier weather draws the highest number of visitors. Those seeking a lively party atmosphere will find larger options nearby, but guests who prefer a quieter, community-focused stay tend to find this hostel a strong fit.

Had an amazing stay here and came back again for a night! Super small hostel so you see the same few mates everyday which is amazing and makes it so easy to make cool friends! U can join them for activities in the day (muay thai/waterfalls etc) and at night go to the myriad of amazing jazz clubs/nightlife spots. I recommend northgate (go early), soi dog blues bar and thapae east (amazing movie set vibes) Not so much a party vibe (more next door at stamps or sylvie and sometimes those folks come over so you can join them) but its very social. Staff rachel and kate (the manager/boss) are also v lovely. Also the peanut banana smoothie is divine. I loved the semi private dorms (own bed and partition). U get ur own space for a dollar more a night which is super worth vs the bunks. Rooms are cleaned everyday and best part is no shoes in rooms. One thing that i wished they could do was turn off the AC after 10/11am in the morning. Sometimes staff shuts it off at 9am and the heat makes you wake up which...after a late night out isnt so pleasant 😭 also as someone who is in construction/homebuilding the bath shower needs to be tiled on the right side or its a potential huge mold problem down the road (rn its a concrete white wall exposed to water.) Overall great place will come back again!!
Had a great time here, great location and the rooms met my needs. Great atmosphere. Useful for booking tours. The staff were amazing, and very helpful. Pla, Om, Rachel (the male staff were great too but I don't know how to spell their names lol) all were very helpful and made my trip to Chiang Mai very special. Would highly recommend and I am ready planning my trip back already
I really enjoyed my stay at the Cabin. Had some of the coolest community spaces I’ve seen in a hostel and the dorms were spacious and well-kept. The staff is incredibly friendly and ready to help and they offer laundry services as well as organize events! Although located next to a party hostel, I could not hear a sound on the third floor and had some of my best sleep here.
