Khao Ngon Nak Nature Trail
Khao Ngon Nak Nature Trail is a nature preserve and hiking trail located in the Nong Thale area of Mueang Krabi District, offering one of the more accessible yet genuinely challenging trekking experiences in the Krabi region. The trail runs approximately 3.5 to 3.7 kilometres one way, winding through dense jungle with significant stair sections and uneven terrain throughout. The payoff at the summit is a sweeping panoramic view that visitors consistently describe as well worth the effort. The hike is largely shaded by the forest canopy, which provides welcome relief from the Thai heat, though the climb remains physically demanding. Families with older children who have some hiking experience have completed it comfortably, while those with lower fitness levels should expect to take rest breaks along the way. The atmosphere is natural and relatively peaceful, with the trail passing through authentic jungle rather than manicured parkland. A few practical points are worth noting before visiting. Proper footwear is strongly recommended — hiking boots or sturdy sports shoes are ideal, and sandals or flip-flops are genuinely unsuitable for this terrain. Visitors should carry sufficient water and snacks for the return journey, and are expected to pack out any rubbish. Starting early in the morning is advisable to avoid the worst of the midday heat and to make the most of the views from the top. No opening hours or booking requirements are currently listed, so arriving with time to complete the full return hike before dusk is sensible planning.

Visitor Reviews
We are a family used to hiking, and our kids (6 and 9 years old) have already completed much longer and more demanding treks, so we treated this hike as a relaxed afternoon walk. We started at 1:50 PM, completed the full loop, and were back by 7:00 PM — so realistically it takes about 4 hours. The Khao Ngon Nak viewpoint is absolutely stunning and 100% worth the effort. Along the way we spotted plenty of frogs and even one snake, which made the hike even more exciting for the kids. What really impressed us was the professionalism of the park rangers — they carefully monitor how many hikers enter the trail and make sure the same number return. We also saw them assisting a German hiker with an injured ankle, helping her safely get down. Good organization, beautiful nature, and a real sense of care for visitors.Highly recommended — truly worth it!
An interesting place with incredible panoramic views, best early in the morning. I admit, I loved this place, especially the strenuous 3.5-kilometer hike in challenging conditions, right through the pristine jungle. After a challenging ascent, the return was a bit easier, and best of all, before leaving the trail, a soothing swim in a small bend of a cool stream, surrounded by small fish, crayfish, and small river shrimp. All in one package: a challenging ascent, incredible views, and photo opportunities, surrounded by the jungle and its sounds. An easier return, a wonderfully relaxing and refreshing swim, and a fulfilled soul. I've been there ten times and will gladly return.
Not for the faint of heart, if you're not in shape prepare for a long trail where you will need to rest multiple times to recover your breath. Amazing trail and when you reach the peak it's just lovely to sit there and enjoy the views for as long as you want.

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
