Giant Catfish Farm
This informal wildlife attraction in Nong Thale offers a low-cost, off-the-beaten-path alternative to Krabi's beach-focused tourism. For just 50 baht entry, visitors can explore landscaped tropical gardens and encounter a varied mix of animals including giant freshwater catfish, an arapaima, crocodile, turtles, and a monkey. The grounds are extensive enough that a map is provided at the entrance, and the setting has clearly seen significant investment in its gardens and paths. The atmosphere is casual and unhurried, best suited to curious travellers, families, and anyone looking to spend an easy hour or two somewhere genuinely different. A bar on site sells refreshments, and a restaurant is also available, making it a relaxed stop rather than a rushed tick-box attraction. Staff are noted by visitors as welcoming and attentive. It is worth noting that some of the bridges and walking paths can be uneven or narrow, and the enclosures for certain animals have prompted mixed reactions from some visitors regarding animal welfare standards. Good to know: Wear closed-toe shoes with good grip, as the outdoor paths and bridges can be difficult to navigate, particularly in wet conditions. The farm operates in a rural area of Mueang Krabi District, so arranging transport in advance is advisable. Opening hours are not confirmed online, so checking with your accommodation or a local tour operator before visiting is recommended to avoid an unnecessary journey.

Visitor Reviews
Amazing even in rainy weather! Highly recommended for adventures looking for a bit of a different style of zoo. Staff are incredibly welcoming and polite. Entry is affordable, the animals are stunning and out of this world. Biggest fresh water fish I've ever seen up close. It's not wheelchair accessible, and slipping is possible, so wear good shoes for the occasion and stay on the path!
We had a great experience here! The gardens are beautiful. It’s easy to get lost. Wear appropriate footwear. Nice to swing by for an hour or so. How can you complain for 50 baht! There is a bar selling refreshments for them hot days too.
Only 50 baht entry, there was a monkey a crocodile, turtles and a huge arapaima
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
