Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary Krabi (Booking is needed)
Nestled in the Ao Nang area of Krabi, this sanctuary offers travellers a chance to spend meaningful time with elephants in a setting that prioritises animal welfare over performance. Visitors interact directly with the elephants through activities such as preparing food, feeding, giving mud baths, and bathing — all guided by knowledgeable, professional staff who provide context on elephant behaviour and care. The experience is intimate by design, with small group sizes that allow for genuine connection with the animals. Families, solo travellers, and couples have all found the atmosphere welcoming and well-organised. It is worth noting that, as one visitor observed, these elephants are not necessarily rescued from the wild in the traditional sense, so expectations around the word "sanctuary" are worth calibrating in advance. That said, the overall experience is consistently described as respectful, safe, and educational, with staff praised for their professionalism and warmth. Food and drinks are included as part of the visit, adding a hospitable touch to the outing. Advance booking is required, so travellers should plan ahead and reserve their slot before arriving in Krabi. Wearing comfortable, water-friendly clothing and sturdy shoes is strongly recommended, as the activities involve water and muddy ground. Smaller time slots, such as those during quieter periods, can result in a more personal experience with dedicated attention from guides.

Visitor Reviews
Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary – A Wonderful, Heart-warming Experience! We had an amazing time at Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary. The entire experience felt respectful, safe, and very family-friendly. We enjoyed every part of the interaction — from feeding the elephants to preparing their food, and especially the mud and water bath session. It was incredible to be so close to these gentle giants and see how well they’re cared for. Our child had a great time too! The staff were patient, kind, and made sure even the little one felt comfortable feeding and interacting with the elephants. Watching the elephants splash around in the water was the highlight for all of us. The sanctuary focuses on ethical treatment, and that really shows. No riding, no force — just pure fun and bonding with the animals. Highly recommended for families and anyone looking for a meaningful, joyful experience in Ao Nang!
We went at the end of October so I have nothing and I have nothing great things ro say about our experience! We were the only people there during our 1-3p time slot. The staff was incredibly helpful in educating us about the sanctuary ethical practices & showing us the proper way to feed the elephants, bathe them with mud and then we ash them and guided us through this unforgettable experience with so much kindness. They took excellent pictures & videos for us the entire time. They also have plenty of snacks and drinks to keep you refreshed. Lastly they have a shower area and towels so we were able to immediately wash off. Thanks again!
My first visit to see and interacted with the elephants was very exciting and fun. Mr. Mia, the instructor, was very professional and knowledgeable about the elephants. Very educational and fun experience. Thank you to Mr. Mia and all his crews for all your hard works to make this elephant adventure a memorable experience for me. Highly recommend to visit Ao Nang Elephant Sanctuary in Krabi, Thailand. 🐘❤️
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
