Phaya Thai BTS Station

4.2(1,470 reviews)

Phaya Thai BTS Station serves as a significant interchange point on the BTS Sukhumvit Line, positioned in the Ratchathewi district along Thanon Phaya Thai. Its most practical feature is the direct connection to the Airport Rail Link, which runs express services to Suvarnabhumi Airport in approximately 30 minutes for a fare of around 45 baht — a reliable way to avoid Bangkok's notoriously heavy road traffic. The station is clean, well-maintained, and staffed by helpful personnel who are accustomed to assisting international travellers. Tickets can be purchased either through self-service touchscreen machines or at staffed ticketing booths, making the process straightforward even for first-time visitors. Trains are reported to be clean and the rides smooth, though travellers should be prepared for loud door-closing sounds. Transferring between the Airport Rail Link and the BTS Skytrain is a simple process — passengers disembark and head downstairs to reach the connecting platform. The station is generally not heavily crowded, which makes navigating the interchange comfortable. Travellers staying in nearby hotels will find the station within easy walking distance of several accommodation options in the area.

Visitor Reviews

Very polite workers. Always willing to help and guide. Very good train station. Easy to buy tickets either through a touchscreen self ticketing or through the ticketing booths. Self ticketing machine only accepts 100-50-20 thB bank notes. Conveniently located in the middle of bangkok.

From here you get airport express metro only in 45 bhat you reach in 30 min from here ,but there is special airport terminal

I did a thorough review of the connection between the airport lane and the BTS Phaya Thai stations. Overall, it is an extremely simple process. You simply disembark your train and head downstairs. You will then cross the platform where there are many restaurants and coffee shops at lying the walkway. 100 meters or so you come across the ticket line for BTS skytrain. Overall, the process is extremely simple, but it is a bit of a hassle that you have to get a new ticket and that the sky trains do not use the sound system. However, if you’re looking for a direct route to the airport this is the best option

Tips for Visiting Transportation

Take the Sleeper Train at Least Once

The Bangkok-to-Chiang Mai overnight train in a second-class sleeper berth is a bucket-list experience. Book at least a week ahead via 12Go.asia or at Hua Lamphong station. Upper berths are cheaper and have more headroom; lower berths have a window.

Use Grab Everywhere

Grab is the Uber of Southeast Asia and works across Thailand for cars, motorbike taxis, and even tuk-tuks in some cities. It eliminates haggling and provides fare estimates upfront. Load a Thai SIM or use eSIM to stay connected.

Rent Scooters Carefully

Always photograph the scooter's existing damage before riding off, and keep your passport — give a photocopy instead (some shops insist on the original; avoid these). Wear a helmet; police fine 500 THB for no helmet and accidents without one void insurance.
