Diamond Cave / Phra Nang Nai Cave
Tucked into the north-east side of Railay Beach, Diamond Cave — locally known as Phra Nang Nai Cave — offers an unusual combination of geological and spiritual interest. The cavern's interior features dramatic limestone stalactite formations alongside Buddhist shrines and religious artifacts, creating a space that functions as both a natural attraction and an active place of worship. A raised, well-maintained pathway runs through the cave, meaning visitors can explore without crawling or scrambling, making it accessible to most travellers. One of the more unexpected highlights is a resident colony of bats roosting in the upper reaches of the cave. Visitors who appreciate wildlife find this a genuine bonus, and the bats are best observed respectfully without shining lights on them while they rest. The cave is relatively compact, with most visitors spending around 15 to 20 minutes inside. The cooler air within the cavern provides a welcome contrast to the heat outside. Good to know: The cave is open daily from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM and charges an entrance fee of 200 baht per person — a detail that divides visitor opinion, so it is worth factoring into expectations. Arriving earlier in the day tends to mean smaller crowds. Wear shoes with a firm grip, as cave surfaces can be uneven, and consider a light layer if you are sensitive to the cooler temperatures inside.

Visitor Reviews
This was a beautiful surprise to find bats inside the cave which I wasn’t expecting. But I saw some review videos that showed people shining flashlights at the bats resting at the top. Please don’t do be that person. Respect the animals, bats are so sensitive to light. And it can damage their eyes. I get you want to see them flying around. But do some research before being a dumb tourist that does whatever they want.
The main concern of other reviews is value for money. For me personally, the cave was very exciting, although it is small. Where else but on a tropical island would you slow down, have a nice fruit shake, and take a stroll inside a cave filled with bats? Highly recommended.
Great cave. There are bats inside, which was a highlight. The cave itself has some beautiful formations and the paths are well maintained. It felt worth the 200 bhat entrance fee for us, but I’m sure that value depends on how much you enjoy caves.

Dress Modestly
Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.
Mind Your Feet
Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.
Ask Before Photographing
Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
