Mama Noi Food & Drink
Tucked away in the Mae Hee area of Pai, this family-owned restaurant has built a quietly devoted following among travellers who keep returning throughout their stay in town. The kitchen's approach centres on cooking each dish fresh to order, and the results show — standout plates include a tofu green curry praised for its spice level and a Panang curry that draws consistent admiration. Beyond meals, the spot also serves coffee, making it a versatile stop at different points in the day. The atmosphere is relaxed and neighbourhood-style, with a cosy, welcoming feel that reflects the family-run nature of the place. Staff are noted for their friendliness, and the overall experience leans unhurried — fitting well with Pai's general pace. It draws a mix of locals and travellers, which tends to be a reliable indicator of quality in a small mountain town with no shortage of dining options. Good to know: The restaurant opens at 11:30 AM daily and closes at 9:00 PM most nights, with an earlier closing time of 6:00 PM on Sundays — worth keeping in mind if a Sunday dinner is on the plan. Because dishes are prepared individually from scratch, service can take a little longer during busier periods, so those with time constraints may want to arrive outside of peak lunch and dinner hours. The Facebook page is the best place to check for any updates before visiting.

Visitor Reviews
Wow. I have eaten at so many places in Pai and I can confidently say that the food here is on another level. Absolutely delicious. And every meal seems to be prepared from scratch just for your order. And with much love, it seems! The service is equally amazing, always with a smile, and you always feel very welcome. Great English as well! There are also (board) games like Pictionary, Uno, Herd Mentality, Chess, Connect 4 etc., as well as books to read. And funny cat posters on the wall :) Highly recommend.
This place is a real hidden gem! An amazing local restaurant with delicious food made with love. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed meal. Their Panang Curry is the best in town – rich, flavorful, and absolutely unforgettable. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for authentic, high-quality food!
Best green curry I have had in Thailand so far (the tofu one)! Nice spice level. Needed a bit more rice. Service was a bit slow and my partner was served about 10 mins before me, but as a small independent restaurant and on a busy evening I can forgive it. Very reasonable prices.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
