RIBS&CO
A reliable outpost of American barbecue in northern Thailand, this mid-range restaurant on Phaholyothin Road draws both locals and travellers craving something beyond Thai cuisine. The menu centres on ribs and grilled meats prepared in Western style, with visitors also noting pizza, Caesar salad, and drinks as solid choices. The kitchen moves efficiently even during busy periods, with multiple reviewers highlighting quick service alongside food that delivers on flavour and freshness. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, making it equally suited to a solo lunch or a group dinner after a day of sightseeing in Chiang Rai. Staff are consistently praised for being attentive and welcoming, and the combination of generous portions, quality cooking, and mid-range pricing represents good value by most accounts. For travellers who have spent time working through Thai menus in Bangkok or elsewhere, this is a well-regarded place to recharge with familiar food before continuing north. RIBS&CO is open seven days a week from 11:00 to 22:00, so there is no need to plan around closing days. The restaurant can get busy in the evenings, though tables tend to turn over reasonably quickly. Arriving in the mid-afternoon or shortly after 11:00 offers a quieter experience if a relaxed pace is preferred.

Visitor Reviews
We’ve had great Thai food all over Bangkok, but being from the U.S., we were ready for something more familiar. Ribs & Co in Chiang Rai delivered in a big way with a western menu that offered ribs, fish & chips, pizza, burgers, pasta, steak, onion rings and shakes, all wonderfully prepared and presented. They did retain a Thai tradition with fresh fruit smoothies that rivaled any. We arrived when the place was full, but were seated immediately in the last table for two. Service was friendly and super efficient. We had pork ribs, a Caesar salad, Mango smoothies and garlic bread—all exceptional. I had a scoop of quality vanilla ice cream for desert, but was tempted by their New York cheescake. The atmosphere was great and just about like sitting somewhere in the U.S. except for the local staff, which was speaking very good English with their Chiang Rai accent. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and they take cash or credit cards.
We arrived in the evening when the restaurant was quite busy, yet we were seated immediately — a great start. We ordered a cheese pizza with no toppings, beef ribs, and a Caesar salad. Everything was delicious, but the highlight was definitely the beef ribs, which were cooked to perfection. Portion sizes were good and satisfying. The waiting time was reasonable, and the service was friendly, attentive, and professional. The beer was served in a chilled glass — a small detail that made a big difference — and the smoothies were excellent, especially the mixed berries. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality, service, and overall experience make it well worth the cost.
Honestly, we loved everything — the food, the vibe, the drinks, and the overall experience. The dishes were fresh, served quickly, and packed with amazing flavor. The quality was excellent, though the ribs portion felt a bit small for two people. The drinks were delicious — we tried a beer and a cocktail, both great choices. Prices were reasonable, and overall, we had a wonderful time here!

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
