Whiteline Cafe & Gastro
Whiteline Cafe & Gastro has built a strong reputation as one of Chiang Rai's go-to evening venues, drawing a relaxed mix of locals and travellers to its central Wiang district location. Live band performances are a regular feature, with reviewers noting a jazzy, high-energy atmosphere that keeps the place buzzing even on weekday nights. Draft Singha beer, reasonably priced drinks, and a solid food menu round out the offering, making it a natural choice for those looking to eat and drink well in the same spot. Inside, the vibe leans casual and social. Pool tables add to the convivial atmosphere, and the crowd tends to be friendly and unpretentious. The gastro side of the menu draws genuine enthusiasm from visitors, with the food quality standing out as more than an afterthought alongside the bar programme. Whether dropping in for a quiet meal earlier in the evening or staying late for live music, the venue accommodates both without feeling like it is trying to be two different places. Good to know: Whiteline gets busy, and reviewers specifically recommend booking a table in advance, including on weeknights, to avoid missing out. Opening hours are not listed online, so it is worth reaching out directly or checking current listings before making plans around an evening visit. The central location keeps it walkable from most accommodation in Chiang Rai's town centre.

Visitor Reviews
Whiteline is probably the best bar in Chiang Rai. We went there a Monday evening, and the atmosphere was absolutely great. A band was playing great music, in a jazzy style. Prices are reasonable. The decorations in the bar are of American influence, and it fits very nicely. There is a pool table outside, which costs 20 bahts per game. The owner is so iconic and tried to arrange us in the best ways possible.
it's one of the spot you have to try their food! definitely phenomenal! draft Singha is so sweet. Always tell my customer to go there and have some fun with live band music!
Very nice place, always crowded with lovely live band. You should reserve in advance if you would like to secure a table as it's always full even during weekdays.
Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
