MaHoRee city of music
Connected to the team behind North Gate Jazz Co., this music-focused bar on Prapokklao Road has carved out a distinct place in Chiang Mai's nightlife scene. The programming leans heavily toward jazz and blues, with three to four bands rotating through each evening across the week, drawing a genuine mix of locals and international visitors rather than a purely tourist-facing crowd. The venue is compact, which keeps the energy concentrated and the atmosphere lively. Cocktails are available though priced on the higher end by local standards — a reasonable trade-off for the quality of live performance on offer. The rotating roster of musicians means no two visits are identical, with bands known to improvise across genres, blending jazz, blues, and classic pop influences. Reviews consistently describe it as well-suited to both solo nights out and date evenings. Good to know: the venue is small and can fill up quickly, particularly when special events like jazz festivals are on. Arriving earlier in the evening is a practical way to secure a decent spot before the crowd builds. Since opening hours and event schedules are not listed online, checking the venue's social media pages before visiting is the most reliable way to confirm what bands are playing on a given night.

Visitor Reviews
Best place to listen to some live music in Chiang Mai. 3 to 4 bande each evening every day of the week. Lot of different style of music, there is something for everyone!
You wouldn’t expect a jazz blues bar in the place like Chiang Mai but hey here’s one. The band was impressive. They could improvise between Bill Withers and The Carpenters. Drinks are not cheap, about 250 baht for a beer, 350 for a cocktail. Had a Negroni. It was good and proper. We sat in the back where it was open air because the music would’ve been loud inside. Still as enjoyable. Card payments are 4% extra FYI.
Great bar! Our local friend took us and told us that this place is run by the people behind North Gate Jazz bar. So it was no surprise that they had live jazz bands playing. And both of them were good. The drink menu is not too big. They focus on basics but do them well. It can get very busy. But they have a second floor and a garden area.
Tips for Visiting Nightlife & Bars
Carry Your Passport or a Copy
Clubs and some bars check IDs strictly, especially in Bangkok's Thonglor, RCA, and Sukhumvit areas. A photo of your passport info page on your phone usually works, but carrying a laminated photocopy is safer.
Know the Closing Times
Legal closing time is 2 AM for most venues, though enforcement varies. In Bangkok's designated entertainment zones (RCA, Silom Soi 2/4, Khao San), some clubs stay open until 4 AM. Islands tend to be more relaxed about hours.
Buy Bucket Drinks Cautiously
Island bucket drinks (mixed spirits in a small bucket) are cheap and fun but notoriously strong and inconsistent. Stick to one, stay hydrated, and never leave your drink unattended at beach parties.
