Compare prices
Tucked away on the rural outskirts of Pai, Tribal Pai Backpackers offers budget travellers a surprisingly resort-like experience, combining affordable bungalow accommodation with generous open-air grounds, hammocks, and sweeping mountain views. The property has a distinctly relaxed, communal atmosphere that draws solo travellers and backpackers looking to slow down and connect with like-minded guests, helped along by a casual bar and a group chat system the hostel uses to organise activities and social meetups. Accommodation comes in the form of small bungalows that visitors generally find comfortable and reasonably priced for the area. Hot water is available throughout the day, and complimentary Wi-Fi is included. The surrounding garden space and natural setting are consistently highlighted as standout features, contributing to the peaceful feel that makes this place popular. The owner is noted by several guests for being warm and welcoming. Some visitors have flagged inconsistencies in room cleanliness and bathroom upkeep, so it is worth checking the condition of your bungalow on arrival. The location sits outside Pai's town centre, which means a little extra travel to reach restaurants and the main strip, but most guests find this distance adds to the tranquil character of the stay rather than detracting from it. Hiring a scooter, which is common practice in Pai, makes getting around straightforward. This hostel suits travellers who prioritise atmosphere, nature, and value over polished amenities.

Visitor Reviews
Chill Backpacker Resort Vibe: Tribal Pai Backpackers feels like a resort for budget travelers — peaceful, relaxed, with a big garden, hammocks, and lots of ways to unwind. Nice Accommodation Choices: Dorms, private bungalows, even tents. The huts are spacious, beds comfy, bathrooms work fine (though some bathrooms are open-roof). Great Common Areas: BBQ facilities, billiard table, terrace/garden spaces where you can hang out. Helpful, Friendly Staff: Owner “Pei” and team are often mentioned as warm, welcoming, and ready to help with anything. Makes the stay more comfortable. Good Location for Nature & Quiet: A bit outside the hustle of Pai town (around 15-20 min walk), which means more peace, better nature views, less noise. If you have transport or don’t mind walking, it’s worth it. Value for Money: For what you get (garden, decent rooms, amenities), many guests say it’s very fair — you get more comfort and space compared to many budget options. Some Things to Note: • Cleanliness sometimes inconsistent (bedsheets not always changed between guests) • Bugs are a possibility, especially if you leave doors/windows open at night. • If you need quiet nights, noise from other guests/music can carry over — plan accordingly. Overall Verdict (5 Stars): Tribal Pai Backpackers is a top-choice for travelers who want comfort without luxury, community without chaos, and nature without being too far from town. If you’re up for earthy charm, social vibes, and beautiful surroundings, this place delivers.
Great place, with an amazing open nature space and mountains views. The price is very fair for the bungalows, it was very comfy, clean both the bedroom and the bathroom, also hot water the whole day for shower. Close to the city center either by bike or walking. Pei the owner was around the whole and ready to help with anything we needed. The place was very quiet because it was low season, not sure how busy does it get during the high season. Thank you Tribal.
Really peaceful place to stay, the room was good and bed comfy! The staff we’re friendly, group chat to meet new people and do fun activities. Location a bit out the way, but made the stay more peaceful.
