No. 8 Pai
Tucked in the heart of Pai, No. 8 Pai is a small, family-run hostel offering dormitory accommodation in one of northern Thailand's most popular traveller towns. Its central location puts guests within easy reach of Pai's walking street, cafes, restaurants, and night market, making it a practical base for exploring the town on foot without the need for transport. The dormitory rooms are a standout feature, offering five beds in a non-bunk configuration that gives guests considerably more space than a typical hostel setup. Each dorm includes a fridge for storing drinks and snacks, two bathrooms, and fan cooling — which returning guests note is sufficient for the climate. The atmosphere is warm and sociable, shaped largely by the host family, who are consistently praised for their friendliness, helpfulness, and genuine hospitality. Several guests have stayed for extended periods, describing the hostel as feeling like a home away from home. No. 8 Pai suits solo backpackers and budget-conscious travellers looking for a clean, comfortable, and well-located place to stay without paying for amenities they won't use. As the hostel is small and popular, booking in advance is advisable, particularly during Pai's peak season between November and February when the town sees its highest visitor numbers.

Visitor Reviews
This place was like my home away from home. I think I spent 3 weeks in total, and Hans, Sol and Lisa felt like family 🥰. Friendly and playful banter with one another and with guests, yet warm and protective. I felt so safe and comfortable in this guesthouse. They helped me with so much, from navigating the hospital, to calling the Henna shop and helping me get a really bad henna tattoo off within one hour instead of one week 😅. They even shared some fruits and veggies with me that I’ve never had before (Snow lotus! Yum!) The coffee is fabulous, the full kitchen and refrigerator are available to use, there is a water refill station for 1Baht/L across the street (where the laundry service is also great!). Loved the covered outdoor seating area, perfect rain or shine. The location is fabulous… I could go for a beautiful run into the mountains every morning, and easily get to walking street within minutes. I didn’t usually need a scooter, but there were several scooter rentals available quite close. Grateful for this family and my time in this space :).
The hostel owners are a nice family where I've stayed at the dormitary room for a couple of days. I've been recommended by a close friend to settle down in this place and never regretted: the location is extremely suitable from the bus station (I travelled with a heavy backpack). The hostess took super care of the tidiness of the room including the bedding and the towel. The only thing I personally felt the lack of was free drinking water and tea/coffee options though the water station was just across the street if so.
I enjoyed the stay. The room I had there was 5 beds and not bunk beds which was more spacious. There is a fridge to keep drinks and snacks. There was two toilets and a shower. The shower water could of worked a bit better. There is parking outfrong and the lady managing is nice. Need better blankets as it get cold at 5am. I had to use two blankets which is thin material. Every Ken was sleeping in clothes.. But It is a cosy stay.

Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive
Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
