B2 Chiang Rai Phahonyothin Boutique & Budget Hotel
Part of the B2 hotel chain, this budget-friendly property sits on Phahonyothin Road in central Chiang Rai, placing guests within easy reach of the city's temples, night bazaar, and local dining. It attracts independent travellers and backpackers looking for a practical, no-fuss base without stretching their budget, with rooms priced at the lower end of the market. The building itself carries a well-worn exterior that some guests find charming and others find dated — reviewers consistently note it looks older than other B2 properties around Thailand. Inside, rooms are described as clean, reasonably spacious, and well-maintained, with functional air conditioning. The beds lean on the firmer side, which is worth keeping in mind for light sleepers or those planning longer stays. Staff receive frequent praise across reviews for being friendly and attentive, which goes some way toward compensating for the property's age. A small number of guests have noted an unusual atmosphere in certain rooms, something local lore attributes to the building's history — a detail that adds colour for some visitors and gives others pause. A deposit of 500 THB is typically required at check-in, so arriving with cash is advisable. The cool season between November and February offers the most comfortable conditions for exploring Chiang Rai and arranging day trips to nearby attractions such as Wat Rong Khun (the White Temple) or the Golden Triangle. Booking directly through the B2 hotel website is recommended during peak travel periods to secure availability.

Visitor Reviews
The staff are very nice, good-looking, friendly, and polite with great service. The building looks a bit old, but the room is clean and well maintained. If there’s any issue, you can contact the staff anytime. Sometimes they reply on LINE a bit slowly, but it’s understandable since they may be helping other guests. There’s no hair dryer in the room, but you can borrow one from the front desk. Before staying, I read some reviews and was a little scared about ghosts 😅 but luckily I didn’t experience anything lol. The price was a bit higher than expected, but after asking the staff, they explained that prices vary by day and it was high season during my stay 😄
The hotel is reasonable according to the price and has a history of ghosts. If anyone is not strong, don't stay because when I went in, I first felt a special feeling and perceived some energy. So I asked from the stories of the people in the area, so I knew the history that it was like that. Actually, if there is a bad history of that room, you should not leave the room to other customers. Should close that room But overall, the hotel is very good and comfortable.
Good location amongst many bars. Old building though, the worse amongst all other B2 hotels i’ve stayed in other provinces. Room 415. Deposit ฿500. Room was ฿860. Bed is hard, pillow seem like it’s not been changed for 10 years, the fiber in the pillow is broken. Bathroom was horrible, sink is bad, water heater isn’t warm. Huge carpark but no parking lot at night.
Tips for Visiting Hotels & Resorts
Book Shoulder Season
May–June and September–October offer dramatic discounts (30–50% off peak rates) with fewer crowds. Weather is mixed but rarely a washout — afternoon showers clear quickly.
Compare OTAs and Direct Rates
Always check the hotel's own website after finding a rate on Agoda or Booking.com. Many Thai properties offer a best-rate guarantee or throw in perks like free breakfast when you book direct.
Pool Villa Doesn't Mean Expensive
Private pool villas in Krabi, Hua Hin, and Chiang Mai start around 2,500–4,000 THB/night — a fraction of Bali or Maldives prices. Search specifically for 'pool villa' to surface hidden gems.
