Viewpoint Phra Maha Mondop Phutthabat
Perched above the bustle of Pattaya, Viewpoint Phra Maha Mondop Phutthabat is a hilltop observation point that combines spiritual heritage with panoramic scenery. The site is home to a revered Buddha footprint shrine, drawing both merit-making locals and curious travellers looking for something beyond the city's coastal strip. The elevated position rewards those who make the climb with broad views across the Pattaya area, and the atmosphere is notably calm and uncrowded — a genuine contrast to the busier attractions nearby. Visitors can expect a quiet, unhurried experience with resident monkeys adding a lively, if occasionally cheeky, presence around the grounds. The approach involves steps leading to the upper viewpoint, and the journey up is part of the appeal. Occasionally, a local vendor selling ice cream can be found on site, making the visit feel like a pleasant, low-key outing rather than a structured tourist excursion. Entry is free of charge, which makes it an easy addition to any Pattaya itinerary. In practical terms, access to the very top appears to depend on whether the gate is open, which can vary by day. Motorcycles and cars can sometimes drive up, but private cars may not always reach the summit. Arriving in the morning tends to offer cooler temperatures and clearer views. As the site includes an active religious shrine, modest dress is respectful and advisable.

Visitor Reviews
Beautiful temple including stunning Buddha footprint. Loads of monkeys. Ice cream if you're lucky and awesome views if you go up the steps. Private cars don't seem to be able to drive to the very top.
Still one of my favorite places in Pattaya. It’s not many people. The view is great. It’s clam and peaceful and you can go there for free.
Quite place, good view of Pattaya area. If the gate is open you can drive to the top (with motorcycle or car)
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
