Krabi Elephant Sanctuary (Book Only)
Nestled in the Ao Luek district of Krabi, this family-run sanctuary stands apart from larger elephant tourism operations through its deliberate focus on animal welfare and intimate group experiences. With only two resident elephants in its care, the sanctuary keeps visitor numbers strictly limited, creating a genuinely personal encounter rather than a conveyor-belt wildlife attraction. Staff and mahouts demonstrate a visible, hands-on commitment to the wellbeing of their animals, and the natural surroundings of Krabi's lush landscape provide a peaceful, unhurried setting for the visit. Visitors can expect a warm welcome from a dedicated team, with hotel and villa pick-up available, making logistics straightforward. The experience centres on observing and engaging with the elephants in ways that respect their natural behaviours, and an on-site photographer is on hand to capture the visit. The sanctuary appeals particularly to families, couples, and solo travellers who want an authentic wildlife encounter without supporting practices that compromise elephant welfare. Good to know: This is a booking-only location, so advance reservations are essential — walk-ins are not an option. As specific booking channels and tour times are subject to change, travellers should confirm current availability through local tour operators or their accommodation. Wear comfortable clothes that you do not mind getting wet or muddy, and bring sunscreen and insect repellent for the outdoor tropical environment. Closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended.

Visitor Reviews
We had an absolutely exceptional experience at the Krabi Elephant Sanctuary. Some of the negative comments I’ve seen seem to come from people who may not have actually experienced the interaction with the elephants, or who expected something different. This sanctuary clearly prioritizes the well-being of the animals. The visits are intentionally kept very small and exclusive, unlike some other places, in order to avoid stressing the elephants. We were able to feed them and take part in their daily care alongside the keepers, which made the experience both authentic and meaningful. Visitors are not encouraged to constantly touch or hug the elephants. For example, the youngest elephant was barely touched during our visit because the owner explained that she does not necessarily enjoy that kind of interaction. This level of respect for the animals is very reassuring and shows how ethical this place truly is. Everyone there is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the elephants and their lives. You learn a lot while sharing a very special moment with these incredible animals. I highly recommend this ethical sanctuary to anyone who wants to discover elephants in a respectful and responsible environment.
Visiting the Krabi Elephant Sanctuary was such a special and meaningful experience. They provided pick up from the villa we were staying in. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and took the time to explain the elephants’ stories and how they’re cared for. We were there to experience the elephants’ regular scheduled feeding, walking, and bathing. We made special fiber balls for them and were able to get close to the elephants by feeding them. What I appreciated most was how peaceful and respectful the environment was. The elephants were free to roam, and we were able to observe them naturally rather than feeling like we were part of a show. It’s clear this is a place built on compassion and genuine care, not tourism. It’s a small family business. I left feeling grateful to have experienced it and happy knowing we supported something ethical. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting Krabi.
If I could give more than 5 stars I would! An incredible experience and you could tell the guide, photographer and keepers really cared about the elephants. Was a highlight of my trip to Thailand and I couldn’t recommend the Krabi Elephant Sanctuary any more. I did a lot of research before hand as I wanted to ensure the place we were going treat the elephants well. They only have small groups and luckily my partner and I were the only one on the morning excursion so we got some amazing quality time observing the elephants. I enjoyed the feeding and watching them roam around in their natural habitat. Huge thanks to everyone at the Krabi Elephany Sanctuary for such an amazing experience and for giving the two elephants a better life ❤️ Massive respect that it’s a small family business where all the family are working together, it warms my heart
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
