Wang Sao Thong Waterfall
Tucked away in the Na Mueang area of central Koh Samui, Wang Sao Thong Waterfall offers a quieter, more secluded alternative to the island's busier natural attractions. Visitors describe it as a hidden gem — smaller and less trafficked than Koh Samui's more prominent waterfalls, which is precisely what gives it its appeal. The surrounding jungle setting creates a genuinely peaceful atmosphere, and natural pools at the base make it suitable for a swim when conditions allow. The hike from the informal parking area to the falls is short and manageable, taking around 10 to 20 minutes, with steps in place for part of the descent. The waterfall itself is modest in size, and water levels vary considerably throughout the year. Those visiting just before or during the rainy season (May to October) will find fuller flows, while dry-season visits may encounter a reduced trickle. A secondary swimming spot is reportedly located further along the trail, worth seeking out for those who explore beyond the main falls. A small fee applies for motorbike parking, collected by a caretaker on site. The path can be slippery, so sturdy closed-toe shoes or water shoes are strongly recommended over sandals. There is no formal booking process, and the site appears to operate on an informal, turn-up basis. As conditions and access can change, it is worth asking locally before making the trip, particularly outside the wet season when water levels may disappoint.

Visitor Reviews
What sets this waterfall apart is its sense of seclusion. Tucked away in nature, it offers a peaceful and isolated setting that’s perfect for unwinding. The natural pools are inviting, allowing you to soak in the cool, refreshing water while surrounded by the lush beauty of the area. This is the ideal spot to enjoy the simplicity of nature, perhaps with a couple of beers in hand, as you relax and let the world fade away. It’s the kind of place where you can truly disconnect and recharge.
20 baht fee for motorbike parking for the guy taking care of the area. Cute little Waterfall with a short hike down some stairs. Probably swimable when the weather is nice, but its a quick 10-20 minute visit otherwise.
This is a bit off from the main road and not as busy as the larger waterfalls, but we went just before the rainy season so the water was quite low. Still a beautiful sight to see. Just be aware, there are some BIG spiders..
Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
