Sun Star Viewpoint
Perched in the Na Mueang hills of Koh Samui, this highly regarded viewpoint delivers expansive panoramas across the island's interior and surrounding waters. What sets it apart from other elevated spots on the island is the combination of genuinely impressive scenery and a welcoming, well-kept environment — the facilities including restrooms are maintained to a notably good standard, and the owner's hospitality is a recurring highlight among visitors. Entry is free, making it an accessible addition to any itinerary. Visitors can expect a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere with a pleasant breeze courtesy of the elevation. A small on-site shop sells snacks, beverages, and fresh coconut, and there is seating and wi-fi available, so spending time here rather than just passing through is a comfortable option. Parking is available on-site, and the viewpoint draws both photography enthusiasts and casual sightseers looking for a quieter experience away from the island's busier coastal strips. Good to know: The road leading up to Sun Star Viewpoint is described by visitors as very steep, so arriving by motorbike or car is strongly recommended — walking up is not a practical option. As no formal opening hours are listed, it is worth confirming access with your accommodation before making the trip. Late afternoon visits offer softer light for photography, while mornings tend to be cooler and quieter.

Visitor Reviews
Beautiful viewpoint on the way to the top. There’s a small shop selling snacks and beverages with very sweet employees. If you go here do NOT walk instead use a motorbike or a car. The road is insanely steep and it’s an extremely hard challenge to conquer this on foot. There’s some very nice spots here made to take good pictures with the view in the background. Definitely a good place to go see when visiting Koh Samui
This is one of my favorite viewpoints in Koh Samui. The owner is incredibly kind — you can stop by to enjoy the view and use the restroom for free. I chose to support his small shop and bought a whole fresh coconut for just 60 THB. So refreshing and absolutely worth it.
A very, very steep road leads to a beautiful viewpoint. Entry is free. Parking is available. A pleasant breeze is included free of charge. The viewpoint (including the restroom) is well-maintained, and the owner is very friendly and helpful. 😊 We enjoyed it.👍🏻

Tips for Visiting Activities & Tours
Vet Elephant Sanctuaries
Only visit sanctuaries that prohibit riding, use no chains or bullhooks, and let elephants roam freely. Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai set the standard. If a place offers painting shows or circus tricks, walk away.
Book Through Klook or GetYourGuide
These platforms offer instant confirmation, free cancellation on most activities, and prices that are often lower than walk-up rates. Compare with local agencies for multi-day trips where negotiation might save more.
Do Outdoor Activities in the Morning
Heat and humidity peak from noon to 3 PM. Schedule jungle treks, cycling tours, and outdoor cooking classes for early morning. Water activities are more flexible since you're in and out of the sea.
