Phrommaviriya Traditional Thai Massage
Tucked along Mun Mueang Road within Chiang Mai's historic old city, this small massage studio draws a loyal following for its straightforward, therapeutic approach to traditional Thai massage. Rather than catering to the luxury spa market, it focuses on genuine technique — combining acupressure, assisted stretching, and energy work to address muscle tension and promote circulation. Visitors consistently praise therapists such as Mai for attentiveness to specific problem areas and willingness to apply firm pressure on request. The atmosphere is warm and personal, with guests describing the staff as friendly and welcoming. Sessions are performed fully clothed on padded mats, and the studio also offers oil-based treatments such as rice milk massage for those who prefer it. It suits travellers looking for a hands-on therapeutic experience over polished surroundings. Note that the studio is small and may have limited therapists working at any given time, so availability for specialist techniques like deep tissue massage can vary depending on who is on shift. Good to know: Opening hours are not listed online, so it is worth calling ahead or stopping by in person before building a visit around it. Wear loose, comfortable clothing if you plan a traditional Thai massage, as you will remain dressed throughout. Cash is the safest payment method to bring. The location is convenient for combining with a walk around the old city walls or a visit to nearby Wat Phra Singh.

Visitor Reviews
The Chef at Chiang Mai is a nice place to go. The seafood Tom Yum is creamy and flavoured , stir friend basil pork rice is also tasty and the curry crab is the other dish praised by my partner. Overall an enjoyable dinner with friendly staffs.
My spouse and I had it done. They were very friendly and warm, we loved them like family. It was our first experience, but they never pressured us at all. We used rice milk oil. I think it was successful. 🌸
Had the best massage I’ve had in 5 weeks in Thailand. She (Mai) gave hard pressure when asked and found the exact sore spots I needed massaged. I Will definitely come back!!!
Tips for Visiting Wellness & Spas
Learn Wat Pho First
Wat Pho in Bangkok is the birthplace of traditional Thai massage education. Their on-site massage pavilion offers excellent treatments from students and graduates at reasonable prices — and you know the technique is authentic.
Communicate Pressure Preferences
Thai massage can be intense. Say 'bao bao' for lighter pressure or 'nак nак' for harder. A good therapist will check in, but don't hesitate to speak up — suffering in silence defeats the purpose.
Book Longer Sessions
A 60-minute massage is fine, but 90 or 120 minutes allows the therapist to work thoroughly. The price difference is often only 200–400 THB for an extra hour — worth it for a deeper, more relaxing experience.
