Banh Banh Pun Pai Sandwich Vietnam
This casual Vietnamese sandwich shop on Chai Songkhram Road has built a loyal following among travellers passing through Pai, drawing consistent queues thanks to its generously sized banh mi and approachable prices. Run by welcoming staff, it offers a reliable and satisfying meal option in a town better known for its cafes and Thai food, making it a standout choice for those after something different. The menu centres on banh mi with a range of fillings including chicken, tofu, and bacon. Portions are notably large — reviewers regularly describe sharing a single sandwich as a filling meal — and the bread is freshly prepared. It is worth noting that the flavour profile differs from traditional Vietnamese banh mi, so visitors with strong expectations of authenticity may find the taste adapted to local preferences. That said, most visitors find the sandwiches satisfying and well worth the price. Good to know: a queue of around ten minutes is common during busy periods, particularly in the evenings, though orders are fulfilled quickly once placed. The shop opens daily from 11:30am to 10pm, making it a convenient option for a late lunch or early dinner. As a budget establishment, card payment may not be accepted, so carrying cash is advisable.

Visitor Reviews
I loved this shop so much, I came twice while in Pai. I first had the chicken, which was so filling and delicious, only lacked some flavouring, and had the bacon the second time, which was delicious. I would highly recommended this place, except it can get very busy, so arrive early!
There was a bit of a queue but once you ordered the sandwiches came out very quickly. The sandwiches are big and reasonably priced. The tofu was very crispy and tasty and so was the chicken. There isn’t much seating but people eat pretty quickly so if you wait you can get a seat
Holy moly this sandwich is like getting a kiss from your nan at Christmas it’s huge and the lady’s running this place are lovely !! Get one thank me later ! The chicken and tofu ones are lush

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
