Baandoi Cafe and Eatery
Tucked into the hillside town of Pai, this cafe and eatery has become a favourite among travellers and locals alike for its combination of beautiful surroundings, quality food, and relaxed atmosphere. The setting is notably tranquil, offering what visitors describe as a peaceful escape with a view — a fitting match for Pai's reputation as a slow-travel destination in northern Thailand. The food and drink menu earns consistent praise across the board. The coffee is a particular highlight, and the kitchen turns out generous portions of Thai dishes at prices that represent strong value. The Pad Thai draws repeated mentions from visitors as a standout dish. The venue also has a charming, informal character — resident cats roam the space, and a ukulele is reportedly available for guests to pick up and play, adding to the easygoing creative atmosphere. Good to know: Opening hours are not listed online, so it is worth checking current hours before making a trip, particularly during the low season when smaller Pai establishments sometimes keep irregular schedules. The address places it at Tambon Thung Yao, slightly outside the central town area, so travelling by scooter or motorbike — the standard way to get around Pai — is the most practical option.

Visitor Reviews
My favorite coffee place in Pai. Serene and quiet. Drinks are delicious and food are yummy too. Plus one chill cat and one bossy kitty rule the place. There is also a ukulele that you can sing to the mountains and the fields ahead.
Wish I could give more than 5 stars. WOW! The most beautiful view, coffee is SO delicious and the food has to be one of the best dishes I’ve had so far in Thailand. Great prices too, highly recommend 🙏🏼
A beautiful, budget-friendly stop that delivers big on flavor and looks. 10/10 would recommend for a quick bite with a view.
Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
