Clandestino Koh Samui
Clandestino Koh Samui is a small, owner-operated restaurant tucked away in Chaweng Noi, where French chef Fabian handles both the cooking and hosting duties himself. Every dish is homemade, with an emphasis on creative, carefully crafted plates that draw a clear contrast to the generic tourist dining common elsewhere on the island. Guests regularly note the outstanding beef and the inventive flavour combinations, alongside presentation that reflects serious culinary intent. The atmosphere is one of the most distinctive aspects of the experience. Reviewers frequently describe it as feeling more like dining in a private home than a conventional restaurant — warm, intimate, and unhurried. Fabian's hands-on presence as host adds a personal dimension that larger venues cannot replicate, making it a popular choice for couples, anniversaries, and anyone seeking a genuinely memorable evening rather than a meal to simply fill time. Clandestino operates exclusively for dinner, opening between 18:00 and 18:30 depending on the day, and closing by 22:00 to 22:30. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. Given the intimate size of the venue and the high demand it attracts, advance booking is strongly recommended, particularly during the peak tourist season between November and February. Check the restaurant's Instagram account for current menu information and reservation details before visiting, as a small owner-run operation of this nature may adjust availability seasonally.

Visitor Reviews
Clandestino Koh Samui is an absolute gem and, without any doubt, the best restaurant experience in Koh Samui and by a very wide margin. Everything is homemade by the chef, with an incredible level of care, creativity, and attention to detail. Each dish feels thoughtful, refined, and deeply authentic, far beyond what you would expect on the island. The flavors are outstanding, the ingredients are top quality, and you can truly feel the passion behind every plate. More than just a meal, it’s a holistic experience: intimate, warm, and genuinely special. A place you don’t just “try once,” but one you remember as a highlight of your trip. If you are in Koh Samui and don’t go to Clandestino, you are missing something truly exceptional.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary at Clandestino on 29 of August 2025 and it was unforgettable. Fabian was an amazing host. Warm, attentive, funny and clearly passionate about creating a unique experience. The food was absolutely delicious, with every dish full of flavor and beautifully presented. The hidden setting added to the magic it felt intimate and very exclusive, perfectly living up to the name Clandestino. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a special, one of a kind dining experience.
Hands down the best restaurant I’ve been to in Thailand. You can immediately tell it’s owner-managed, the passion and love for the place come through in everything. The beef was absolutely outstanding, and every single detail, from the food to the overall experience, is done with so much care and attention. Truly amazing.

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
