Meals n' Bites @ JP's
Run by JP and his wife, this small family-operated Thai restaurant on Maenamkwai Road has earned a devoted following among travellers for its genuine home-style cooking and welcoming atmosphere. Slightly removed from the busier tourist cluster near the bridge, it rewards the short walk with food that consistently impresses — standout dishes include Cashew Chicken, Honey Chicken, and Massaman Curry, all prepared with the kind of care that keeps visitors coming back for multiple meals during the same stay. The menu is focused rather than exhaustive, which works in its favour — every dish receives proper attention, and portions are substantial for the price. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, with the friendliness of the owners contributing as much to the experience as the food itself. It suits solo travellers, couples, and small groups equally well, and the budget pricing makes ordering a spread of dishes an easy decision. Good to know: Meals n' Bites @ JP's opens at noon and serves until 10 PM every day of the week, making it a reliable option for both lunch and dinner regardless of when you are passing through Kanchanaburi. Given its popularity and small size, arriving earlier in the evening rather than at peak dinner hour is worth considering to secure a table without a wait.

Visitor Reviews
What a great little restaurant with authenic Thai dishes. We ordered four different dishes and everything was delicious but the Cashew Chicken was something else and one of the best I have had in Thailand. The owners are very nice and the price is great. Will be back before I leave Kanchanaburi. Edit: we came back and this time tried the Chicken in green curry and Coconut and the honey glazed Chicken and we ordered the Cashew Chicken again of course. It was just like before everything was delicious. They remembered that we like our dishes spicy and made the green curry more spicy and brought some extra chili to the table. Thank you again 👌
Stayed at the Sabai@Kan across the road so came here 4 nights after reading the positive reviews here. We have to say we weren't disappointed in any way. The menu isn't huge but it certainly has many delicious dishes. The dishes are intentionally not too hot for foreign tastes but no less tasty. Ask for the food Asian style if you prefer a little more heat. Very friendly and welcoming staff also and the bill is always cheap compared to Western prices.
Great food for great prices. When in Kanchanaburi you should skip the touristic center near the bridge and take a small walk to JP’s meals n bites. You won’t regret that! We had a tableful of fantastic food. Thanks JP!

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
