Mallika R.E 124
Mallika R.E. 124 transports visitors to Thailand as it appeared around 1905, during the reign of King Rama V. Set across a sprawling open-air grounds in Sai Yok, Kanchanaburi, the attraction recreates an early 20th-century Thai town through a varied collection of period architecture, ranging from modest wooden shophouses to elaborate ornate structures. Originally developed as a movie set, the site has since become a well-regarded cultural destination where history and atmosphere combine in an accessible and engaging way. Visitors can rent traditional Thai costumes on-site, which many use to explore the grounds and take photographs in the recreated surroundings. A market area offers a wide selection of Thai snacks and meals, and souvenir shops are located along a covered bridge within the complex. Cultural demonstrations and food add further depth to the experience, making it a place where several hours can easily be spent. Practically speaking, Mallika R.E. 124 is open daily from 09:00 to 17:00, giving visitors a full day window to explore at a relaxed pace. Purchasing tickets in advance through the official website at mallika124.com is recommended by visitors, as it can streamline entry. Those interested in wearing more elaborate traditional Thai clothing should be prepared for an additional costume upgrade fee beyond the standard option. The site suits photographers, families, and anyone with an interest in Thai cultural heritage.

Visitor Reviews
This recreation of Thai lifestyle in 1905 is a really great place to visit and spend a few hours. You'll see different styles of building architecture from smaller and modest to big and ornate, staff dressed in period correct clothing and speaking with older style language, all kinds of snacks to try and so on. You'll even get old coins with holes in the middle with which to buy stuff. The layout is really nicely thought out and fun to stroll around and take photos. There are some demonstrations of how things were done at the time, for example grinding rice, or making crafts. The old lady showing us was so cute. They have free parking for your car, but there is an entrance fee which is variable based on whether you want to try food for free or not, and if you want to dress up in clothing styles of the time which looks really great. Highly recommend this place, it should be high on your list if you're exploring Kanchanaburi.
Mallika City is the best getaway when visiting Kanchanaburi. The theme lets you experience and feel the ambiance of Thailand during the Rama V era. It’s best to buy your ticket through their website because they give a 20 THB voucher that you can use at Black Canyon Café. You will need to exchange THB to *satang*, so once inside Mallika City, look for the Siam Commercial Bank where you can exchange your cash for the old coins. It’s a very nice experience, especially for those who love historical places. If you enjoy eating, I recommend buying the admission ticket that includes the “Eat All Around” option so you can taste all the food and **kanom/dessert** inside. :)
A movie set turned tourist attraction. Great place for photographers. Plenty of food and drinks. A market gives you a wide selection of snacks and meal. Souvenir shops are on the covered bridge. Worth a visit.

Tips for Visiting Temples & Culture
Dress Modestly
Cover shoulders and knees at all temples. Carry a light scarf or sarong — some temples lend wraps, but not all. Shoes come off before entering any building with a Buddha image.
Mind Your Feet
Never point your feet at a Buddha image or a monk — it's considered deeply disrespectful. When sitting inside a temple, tuck your feet behind you or to the side.
Ask Before Photographing
Exterior photos are almost always fine, but some interior halls prohibit photography. Look for signs, and never pose irreverently with Buddha images — it's a legal offense in Thailand.
