Chaolay Seafood Hua Hin
Perched over the water on Soi Naresdamri a short distance from Hua Hin beach, this open-air seafood restaurant draws a steady mix of locals and tourists with its genuine pier-side setting and straightforward Thai coastal cooking. Much of the dining area extends directly over the ocean, offering real water views without the inflated prices that typically come with waterfront dining. The menu focuses on fresh seafood prepared in classic Thai styles. Dishes that visitors return for include steamed cotton fish curry with seabass, whole crab, and giant prawns served with a pepper coconut sauce. The kitchen handles non-seafood orders as well, making it a workable choice for groups with mixed preferences. The space is large and open, suited to families and group meals, and service runs at a brisk pace. The atmosphere is busy and lively rather than quiet or intimate, which is worth keeping in mind when choosing between lunch and dinner. The restaurant is open every day from 10:00 AM to 9:30 PM. Arriving in the mid-afternoon between the main meal rushes offers a better chance of a quieter table. Evening dining benefits from sea breezes that keep the open-air space comfortable, though there is no air-conditioning, so the outdoor setting is simply part of the experience. Most local taxi apps and tuk-tuk drivers will locate the soi without difficulty.

Visitor Reviews
I had a wonderful seafood experience last night. I ordered way too much, but ate it all. I recommend the giant prawns because the accompanying pepper coconut sauce was amazing. All ingredients were fresh and cooked well. Different levels of Eng with the wait staff, but they were all helpful. I also appreciate as a solo diner they did not treat me differently. It’s all about the food. No bells and whistles here. a good idea to make reservations if you know the date and time of your visit because it’s nice to sit out on the open patio with the cross breeze.
Good view and good seafood next to Hua Hin beach. Seafood is fresh and delicious. Really like their crab. It’s outdoor seat but not too hot at night. Restaurant is big and full of customers. They serve the dish quick so no need to wait too long. Price is acceptable with this view and atmosphere. Good to try when you visit Hua Hin.
It was so good that we came twice when we were in Hua Hin. Fresh seafood and quick service. 🙏🧡 Our favorite dish was the steamed cotton fish curry( we picked Seabass).

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
