Aroi Restaurant
Tucked along Prapokklao Road in Hua Hin, this small Thai restaurant has built a loyal following among both locals and visitors for its attentive, personalised approach to cooking. Chef Richard — known affectionately as Dicky — takes the time to ask each guest how they would like their dish prepared before he begins cooking, a thoughtful touch that sets the place apart from busier tourist-oriented eateries in the area. The menu covers classic Thai favourites executed with care and fresh ingredients. Standout dishes among visitors include the Pad Krapao, the massaman curry, Pad Thai, Tom Kha chicken soup, and spring rolls. Fresh fruit smoothies are also a popular accompaniment. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal, with staff consistently described as friendly and welcoming. A small detail that regular visitors enjoy: the rice is served shaped into a little bear, adding a charming flourish to the presentation. Good to know: Aroi Restaurant is open every day of the week from 10:00 to 22:00, making it a reliable option for both lunch and dinner. Pricing appears to reflect local rather than tourist rates, offering solid value. As a small, intimate spot, it can fill up during peak meal times, so arriving slightly outside of the busiest lunch and dinner rushes is worth considering.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
