Kunda Vegetarian Vegan Burger Cafe Chiang Rai
Tucked along Trairat Road in central Chiang Rai, this plant-based cafe has earned a devoted following among vegetarian and vegan travellers for its focused, carefully crafted menu of burgers made without mock meat or artificial additives. The kitchen works with local produce and house-made hot sauces, resulting in burgers that reviewers consistently describe as architecturally considered and genuinely satisfying rather than a compromise on flavour. A bonus that catches many visitors off guard is the view of a nearby temple, visible from the dining area and adding an unexpectedly memorable backdrop to the meal. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, with mid-range pricing that makes it accessible without feeling budget. The menu is intentionally concise, which speaks to a kitchen focused on doing fewer things exceptionally well. Salads and natural, additive-free drinks round out the offerings for those wanting a lighter meal or something beyond the burgers. The cafe draws a mixed crowd of dedicated vegans, curious flexitarians, and travellers simply looking for something different from the standard northern Thailand dining circuit. Good to know: the cafe opens daily at noon and closes at 7:30 PM, which is earlier than many restaurants in the area. Arriving by 6:30 PM is advisable to allow enough time to order and eat without feeling rushed. Monday is the only closed day of the week. The Trairat Road location is straightforward to reach on foot from the Old City or by songthaew, making it a convenient stop when exploring the city centre.

Visitor Reviews
On our last vacation to Chiang Rai, a random Google search for a vegan restaurant led us to Kunda Vegetarian Vegan Burgers—and honestly, it turned out to be one of the best experiences of our trip. Finding food this good while traveling feels like pure luck. The burgers and salads were absolutely heavenly, and we can’t recommend them enough. But beyond the food, please take the time to meet the beautiful soul behind it all. The lady chef radiates positivity, and her love and passion for what she does truly shine through. We think of you every time we reminisce about our trip, and we’re certain we’ll see you again in the future. 💚
Wow! What a beautiful dining experience at Kunda. From start to finish, we were made to feel so at home and welcome. The view of the temple is incredible and so special to view while dining. The food and drink is delicious. It’s a small menu done really well. You must try the hot sauces with the burgers! What I also love about Kunda, is the wider community impact and passion for plant based dining and using local suppliers and ingredients. We had such a memorable evening there and left feeling so happy. Thank you!
Kunda is something else entirely. If you could only eat once in Chiang Rai, this would be the place to choose. The menu is intentionally truncated but clearly perfected. The burger itself has architectural magnificence, making its deconstruction a satisfying experience. Add to this the service which carries genuine presence. Do note that credit cards are not accepted.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
