India At Chiang Rai , North - South Indian Vegan Veg Non Veg Gluten Free Halal Meat Restaurant
India at Chiang Rai stands out in a city dominated by Thai cuisine, bringing genuine North and South Indian cooking to Mueang district's dining scene. The kitchen covers a wide spectrum of dietary needs — vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and halal meat options are all available — making it a reliable choice for travellers with specific requirements who might otherwise struggle to find suitable meals in the region. The restaurant also operates as a cocktail bar, so diners can pair their meal with a drink. Seating is limited, giving the space an intimate, casual feel that suits solo diners, couples, and small groups well. Standout dishes mentioned by visitors include the onion bhajis, dosa, daal fry, and garlic naan. The kitchen accommodates spice-level requests, including genuinely mild preparations for those sensitive to heat — a detail worth noting given how inconsistently this is handled elsewhere. Portions are fresh, service is attentive, and prices are considered reasonable by visitors comparing them to Indian food costs back home. Good to know: The restaurant opens daily from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM, covering lunch through to late dinner. It sits on Jed Yod Road in central Chiang Rai, within easy reach of most guesthouses and hotels in the area. Given the small dining room, arriving slightly before peak meal times — around 11:30 AM for lunch or 6:00 PM for dinner — is advisable to secure a table without a wait.

Visitor Reviews
I had a really great experience @ India at Chiang Rai. The food was absolutely delicious and came out surprisingly fast, which I really appreciated. A special thanks to Jamshir Hassan, who was incredibly kind, friendly and very helpful in guiding me through the menu. His recommendations were spot on and made the whole experience even better. I truly enjoyed both the food and the relaxed atmosphere. If you’re looking for authentic Indian cuisine with warm service and great flavors, this is definitely the place to visit. Highly recommended!
Great little Indian restaurant in Chiang Rai. There’s not a lot of seating, but the food was fresh and delicious. For an appetizer, I highly recommend the onion bhajis which were the best I’ve ever had. We had the tikka masala, butter chicken and naan, which were also very tasty. They accommodated our request for “not too spicy” and the spice was perfect. They are a fairly new restaurant, so be sure to support them!
We were glad to have several meals here as the staff is very kind and caring and they prepare non-spicy food on request which is actually non spicy. We highly recommend daal fry (its execellent) and jeera rice. Their chai and south indian butter milk are also delicious.

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
