The Hungry Nest
The Hungry Nest has earned a loyal following among both travellers and locals for its relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and a menu that bridges Thai classics and Western comfort food. Situated on Jetyod Road in central Chiang Rai, this café-restaurant draws visitors looking for a reliable spot that handles everything from a hearty American breakfast to pad thai and fresh salads with equal confidence. The quality of ingredients and attentive service are consistently noted by diners. The menu offers genuine variety, with standout options including omelets, bagel sandwiches, Greek salad with grilled chicken, and beef sandwiches alongside Thai staples. Smoothies and specialty coffee drinks — including oat milk cappuccinos and lattes — round out the offering, making it as suitable for a slow morning coffee as for a full sit-down meal. The setting is casual and comfortable, with both indoor and outdoor seating, though those sensitive to smoke may prefer to request an indoor table. Open every day from 7:40 AM to 10:00 PM, The Hungry Nest is well-suited for breakfast, brunch, or an early dinner. Arriving mid-morning or in the early afternoon helps avoid the busiest periods and makes for a more leisurely experience. Given its popularity and consistent reputation, it is worth factoring into your Chiang Rai itinerary early in your stay rather than leaving it as an afterthought.

Visitor Reviews
If you're craving a classic American Breakfast in Chiang Rai, The Hungry Nest is the place to be. It’s a cozy spot that serves up high-quality comfort food that hits the spot every time. The Food: I ordered their American Breakfast sets, and they did not disappoint. • The Classics: The sunny-side-up eggs were cooked perfectly, paired with crispy, flavorful bacon and a well-seasoned sausage. • Pancakes & Toast: The pancakes were thick and fluffy—exactly how they should be—while the thick-cut toast was great with the provided butter and jam. • Sides: The breakfast potatoes were a highlight—golden, crispy, and seasoned just right. The Drinks: The hot latte was excellent, featuring some beautiful latte art and a smooth taste. To balance the savory meal, the orange juice was a refreshing and bright addition. Overall Experience: The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with a nice wooden aesthetic. It’s the perfect place for a slow morning or a hearty brunch with friends. The portions are generous, and the ingredients feel fresh. Verdict: Definitely one of the best spots in Chiang Rai for a satisfying American-style breakfast. Highly recommended!
We had a wonderful meal here! The restaurant offers a wide selection of dishes, making it a great spot if you are looking for both local flavors and familiar Western comfort food. The Food: The Pad Thai was absolutely grand—authentic and full of flavor. We were also impressed by the Western menu options; everything was fresh and delicious. Price Point: It is a bit more expensive than your average local spot, but given the quality and the variety, the prices are completely reasonable. Important Note: The only downside is that they do not accept card payments. Make sure to bring enough cash with you so you aren't caught off guard! Overall: A fantastic dining choice with something for everyone. Just remember to hit the ATM before you arrive!

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
