Aunt Sangiam Midnight Fried Chicken
Tucked inside Chiang Rai's Kad Luang municipal market, this late-night fried chicken stall has built a loyal following among locals and night-owl travellers looking for a satisfying, no-frills meal after dark. Operating every night of the week from 7pm until 2am, it fills a practical gap in a city where late dining options can be limited, and its consistent popularity speaks to the quality on offer. The chicken is the sole focus here, and it delivers. Reviewers consistently highlight the light, crispy batter that avoids the heavy or greasy texture common at lesser stalls, while the pieces themselves are generously sized. The flavour leans slightly salty, which pairs naturally with sticky rice and a green chili dip — a combination that reflects straightforward northern Thai eating. Prices are kept low, making it an easy choice for travellers watching their budget without wanting to compromise on taste. Because the stall is located inside the market rather than on a street-facing frontage, first-time visitors may need a moment to locate it — arriving on foot and asking locally is the most reliable approach. It is well suited to a casual late-night stop rather than a sit-down meal, so expect a fast-food style setup. Visitor Reviews
The fried chicken is also delicious. The batter is very crispy. It's suitable for those who like fried chicken. We removed all the batter and ate only the chicken. The price is not expensive. One chicken thigh, one drumstick, sticky rice 10 baht, and a small jar of chili paste 60 baht all together. Try driving to buy this to buy and take home to eat.
Great quality at a good price! Little bit hard to find but it's inside the market.
Good local food. Low price and good taste

Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
