Chai “N” Thai @ Nimman Indian Restaurant Best & Nearest North Indian-South Indian Vegan ,Non veg Halal Meat, Gluten free Food
Tucked into Nimman Lane 9, this Indian restaurant covers an unusually broad range of regional cooking styles, bringing North and South Indian dishes together on a single menu alongside a small selection of Thai food. What makes it stand out in Chiang Mai's dining scene is its genuine inclusivity — halal meat preparation, clearly labelled vegan and vegetarian selections, and gluten-free options make it a reliable choice for groups with differing dietary requirements, something that can be difficult to find in one place. Visitors consistently praise the authenticity of the flavours and the generosity of portions. Dishes that appear regularly in guest accounts include samosas, butter chicken, chapati with ghee, roti, and jackfruit curry, with lassi a popular accompaniment. Mild preparations are handled well, making it a workable option for those who are heat-sensitive. The staff are noted for their warmth, and the restaurant grows some of its own ingredients on site — a detail that reflects the care taken with the kitchen's output. Good to know: The restaurant opens every day from 10:00 to 23:00, with no weekly closing day, making it a consistent option across any itinerary. Pricing sits at a mid-range level suited to everyday dining. Nimman is a busy neighbourhood, so arriving in the early afternoon or ahead of the dinner rush typically makes for a more relaxed experience. Travellers with serious allergen concerns are advised to speak directly with staff about preparation methods before ordering.

Visitor Reviews
Lots of Indian and a bit local food. Delicious food and wonderful ladies working here :-))). I tried jackfruit with chicken curry and it was a very interesting one. Lassy is also good. And! They grow their own garden, tomatoes, parsley, cabbage etc just near the entrance. Saw lots of Indian people eating here.
I was really craving Indian food while wandering around Nimman Road, so we decided to give this restaurant a try. My partner couldn’t handle much heat, so we tried mild dishes: butter chicken, coconut potato curry, garlic naan, and dosa with sambar. The aroma of mixed spices immediately lit up our senses. Coconut potato curry had a particularly rich taste of tropical comfort with a touch of sweetness balancing the savory gravy. Dosa was perfectly spongy and airy, though I wish the exterior had been a bit crispier. I also loved the sambar’s homey flavor- it reminded me of those bowls of sambar I used to have (and miss a lot) at my South Indian friends’ dinner parties. I’m also glad I got to have a brief chat with the owner. He was genuinely warm and welcoming. I’d happily come back to this place and try more of the menu. It gave me yet another solid reason to return to Chiang Mai.
We had an amazing experience at Chai N Thai @ Nimman in Chiang Mai. Everything was absolutely delicious!! We started with samosas, which were perfectly seasoned and incredibly tasty. Then we ordered butter chicken and a Chinese-Indian dish, both full of flavor and truly memorable. We paired everything with butter roti and butter naan, which made the experience even better. The atmosphere is very pleasant, and the service was extremely attentive, making us feel very well taken care of. Without a doubt, this has been one of the best dining experiences we’ve had on our trip. I’ve never been to India, but this meal truly made me want to travel there. Highly recommended.💯

Tips for Visiting Restaurants & Food
Learn the Spice Scale
Say 'mai pet' for no spice, 'pet nit noi' for a little spice, or 'pet mak' if you want it Thai-hot. Most cooks will default to a toned-down version for foreigners unless you specify otherwise.
Follow the Crowds
The busiest street stalls are almost always the best — high turnover means fresh ingredients and a recipe that locals vouch for. An empty restaurant at dinner time is a red flag.
Ice Is Safe
Factory-made tube or cylinder ice (used in virtually all restaurants and stalls) is made from purified water and is safe to consume. You don't need to skip the iced Thai tea.
